About This Pub

Ah, the Bridge Hotel – it's one of those pubs that just sticks with you after a visit. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's got this brilliant beer garden overlooking the iconic bridges and river, which is just the spot for soaking up the sun with a cold one in hand. The real ales are spot on, especially if you're into that CAMRA-approved selection, and it's clear folks love the traditional feel with its beautiful stained glass and welcoming vibe. Service is spot on too, with friendly faces behind the bar making sure you're looked after. On the flip side, the hours can be a tad confusing, sometimes wrapping up earlier than you'd hope, and without a website, it's a bit of a leap of faith to plan ahead. Plus, it does get packed, so if you're after a quiet corner, you might need to time it right. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out in Newcastle – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, but keep those little niggles in mind for the full picture.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer garden is absolutely fabulous, with spectacular views over the bridges and river – perfect for a sunny afternoon pint.
  • They've got a cracking selection of real ales, including those from the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, so it's a treat for any beer enthusiast.
  • It's got that warm, traditional pub vibe with stunning stained glass windows and a handsome interior that makes you feel right at home.
  • Friendly service from the bar staff, who are quick and welcoming, making it easy to settle in for a quiet drink or a chat.
  • Prime location right by Newcastle Castle and the Tyne, making it a must-visit spot for anyone exploring the area.
Cons
  • The opening hours seem a bit inconsistent based on what's listed, with some days closing earlier than you'd expect, which might cut short your evening.
  • No website to check out menus or events in advance, so you might have to just turn up and see what's on offer.
  • It can get quite busy, especially with its popularity, so grabbing a seat might not always be straightforward on peak times.

I haven't been in here for decades. It was a good wee boozer back in the day and still is. It now has a fabulous beer garden with spectacular views. Highly recommend

Paulicarus is ticking off the 2025 CAMRA Good Beer Guide entries. Sat overlooking the low level swing bridge where Christine's dad Jim used to work the night shift in the late 1970's. Next to the high level bridge, hence the name. Ten handpump real ales cement this as a GBG pub. My first ever visit to this marvellous building. A small outside river view beer terrace with super views not open in March. ( needs TLC.) A new brewery for me, Breworks in Pickering. A 5% Coal Porter..ha ha. Downstair toilets let down the place

Bridge Hotel is simply a decent boozer. It’s big enough to accommodate a lot of punters but still feels like a local. It’s got the energy, the buzz….but you’ll also hopefully get a seat. Plus it’s damn handsome. Rock solid.

Had a quiet pint here whilst on a 2 day art visit to Newcastle. Beautiful old pub by the castle and one of its many bridges. A lovely sunny day meant the stained glass in the windows was truly glowing. Friendly barmaid in a lovely place, good beer choice I had a hoppy pale ale, highly recommended

It's one of the most beautiful pubs in NCL. It's just across the Newcastle Castle and a few metres from the Tyne River. Drinks were good and service was quick. I'd recommend it as one of the "must visit" pubs in NCL.
