About This Pub

Ah, Crown Posada, it's one of those pubs that just sticks with you after a visit, isn't it? Tucked away in the heart of Newcastle, it's got this wonderful old-school charm that reminds me of the best bits of British pub culture – think cracking beers that are poured just right, and an interior that's as cosy as your nan's living room with those impressive stained glass windows and a snug lounge area. The folks there really know how to keep things lively too, with a record player spinning tunes that add a fun twist to your evening. On the flip side, it's a narrow spot, so if it gets packed, which it often does given how beloved it is, you might end up jostling for space or waiting a bit for service. Still, for anyone keen on a proper pub experience, it's well worth seeking out – you'll leave with a smile and probably a new favourite ale in tow.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot on, with a fantastic range of cask and keg ales that are always well-kept and full of character.
  • It's got that classic, cosy pub vibe with stunning decor, like the stained glass windows and the officers lounge, making you feel right at home.
  • The atmosphere is genuinely welcoming and full of good craic, perfect for a relaxed chat or enjoying some varied music from the record player behind the bar.
  • Being one of Newcastle's oldest pubs, it holds onto its traditional charm while still feeling fresh and inviting for a pint.
Cons
  • The space is a bit narrow, so it can feel a tad cramped during busier times, making it tricky to find a spot if you're popping in on a weekend.
  • With its popularity, you might have to queue for a drink or miss out on playing your own records if the bar's buzzing.

One of the oldest pubs in Newcastle. It still maintains the true nature of what a pub should be - good beer, a good crack and welcoming atmosphere. Long may it last!

My favourite pub in Newcastle. The interior is a fabulous place with the officers lounge to the front and a long thin seating area to the rear. Great selection of cask and keg beers, and music from a record player behind the bar (if you ask nicely you can play your own records sometimes!). Absolute must for anyone visiting the city and the locals will make you feel welcome!

Paulicarus has long wanted to visit this famous pub. About 20 years ago for my last visit but i had been here a few times before. It sold real ale when Scottish and Newcastle brewery had the North East as a bad fizzy keg beer desert. A very narrow bar with a super interior decor. A small lounge to the left and a long through bar plus the side alley has " outdoor seating." Had a pint of 4.2% best bitter by Full Circle brewery. One of six real ales on handpump. Claims to be the second oldest pub in Newcastle. Instead of a Juke Box they play 33 rpm vinyl. Oddly listening to late 1980's Kylie! Our Lady the Virgin Mary was looking forn somewhere to stay and Posadas / Inns were full! ( hence a stable.) In Wolverhampton we visited " The Posada." Apparently a reason for a festival in South American countries.

Really special pub! Amazingly cosy interior with some impressive stained glass windows. Really great selection of cask ales, which were very well kept. Saw a good range of kegged beers but could not look past the hand pumps! A must visit when in Newcastle
