About This Pub

Ah, Katie O'Brien's – it's one of those spots in Nottingham that just pulls you in with its warm Irish charm and buzzing energy. I've got to say, the live music on weekends is an absolute highlight; it's lively, engaging, and really sets the tone for a memorable evening. The bar team are gems too, always on hand with a quick pour and some solid recommendations that make you feel right at home. Whether you're there to catch the latest sports match or just unwind with a group, the atmosphere is spot on for a proper night out. On the other hand, it's a shame about the door staff; they've been known to be a tad heavy-handed, turning folks away for what seems like trivial reasons, which might leave you feeling a bit miffed if you're not prepared. Still, if you fancy a bit of craic and keep things smart casual, it's well worth popping in for the good times – just go in with your eyes open to avoid any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The live music is absolutely brilliant, really getting everyone in the mood for a great night.
  • The bar staff are super friendly and quick to serve, often suggesting a cracking lager or drink.
  • It's got a fantastic atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a pint, watching sports, or just having a laugh with friends.
Cons
  • The door staff can be a bit too strict and unprofessional, sometimes turning people away without much explanation.
  • There might be issues with entry over minor things like dress code, which could put a damper on your plans.

A regular stop on our Saturday night socials. Although they fill to the rafters, there is good music and fun crowd. This Saturday after queuing we were met by a bouncer who turned away saying “too drunk” repeating this 3 times. He wasn’t willing to engage in explanation just repeating the same comment. So we were left outside unable to contact our party who were already inside. When my partner spoke to the other bouncer he said “nothing I can do he’s in charge!” Frankly I respect that the job is not easy but we certainly were not drunk and we did not make a scene or raise our voices about it. But this is no way to treat people. And I was quite putout by his manner and standoffish attitude. I know it won’t change things but needs saying because he was dismissive and rude and I do not think justified at all.

Wow I haven't experienced such unprofessional door staff in my years of going to pubs. We are both in our 60s and decided to go for a drink after a meal nearby. I got in but my partner was denied entry because she was displaying a small sporting logo on her top. When we asked for an explanation the tall bouncer ignored us and carried on chewing gum, the smaller one did not seem to bother. Lots of other people that had been standing in the outside area were wearing branded shoes and clothing, I would like to point out we had not been drinking and were not wearing any branded football shirts etc. It was a very small Adidas logo. Is it the bouncers job to stop people spending money in a pub that pays their wages at the end of the day.
