About This Pub
Ah, Ye Olde Spa Inne – it's one of those classic Derby spots that just has that timeless pub charm, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the beers are an absolute highlight; folks rave about their amber ale, saying it's got this lovely balance of spicy hops and sweet malts that makes it so moreish – I can imagine sinking into a pint after a long day. The staff really shine too; they're described as wonderful and attentive, especially during events like retirement parties where the buffet food gets top marks for being delicious and well-put-together. It's open seven days a week with flexible hours, so it's handy for a spontaneous catch-up, and being inexpensive keeps things accessible for everyone. But, let's be honest, it's not without its flaws – some say it feels a tad worn out compared to its glory days, and there are hints that the vibe might not be as welcoming for all, which is a shame because pubs should be about bringing people together. Overall, with a solid rating showing more positives than not, I'd say it's worth popping in if you're nearby, just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros

-
Being inexpensive means you can enjoy a good night out without breaking the bank, and there's often a bit of free entertainment nearby that adds to the fun atmosphere.
Cons
-
It can feel a bit stuck in the past, not quite the same vibrant place it was back in the 80s and 90s, which might disappoint if you're after a more modern vibe.
-
The atmosphere isn't always the most inclusive, with some feedback suggesting it doesn't feel welcoming for everyone, so it might not suit all groups looking for a relaxed evening.
-
Without much of an online presence, it's tricky to get the latest info or updates, which could leave you a bit in the dark if you're planning ahead.

Sharps Doom Bar 500MlDoom Bar is a perfectly balanced beer combining subtle yet complex flavours. This creates an amber ale which is both satisfying and deliciously moreish.Aroma: Spicy resinous hop, sweet roasted malts.Taste: Balanced, succulent dried fruit, lightly roasted malt.Finish: Moreish, subtle bitterness.Food Pairing: Great with battered seafood like calamari, grilled white fish or pork. Also awesome with Sunday roasts.
We called in on the way back from Derby after a trip to see a band at Derby theatre. We used to go to the Spa in the 80s and 90s. It would be fair to say that it's not the same pub. The lady serving us was very friendly, but my wife was the only other lady in there. Fingers crossed it changes very quickly and very soon.
