About This Pub
Ah, Ye Olde Mitre—it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper British institution, tucked away on the High Street in Barnet with its roots stretching back to the 1600s. From what I've gathered chatting about it, most people absolutely love the place for its charming, vintage atmosphere; you can imagine Charles Dickens popping in for a tipple back in the day. The staff are a real highlight, always up for a laugh and quick to recommend a drink or dish, and the menu's spot on with hearty traditional food that's freshly made, including thoughtful options for different diets. That beer garden with its retractable roof is a winner too, especially on a sunny afternoon when you're out with the family or the dog in tow. It's versatile like that—perfect for a low-key evening or ramping up for a birthday bash in one of those cosy side areas. But, let's be straight, it's not all roses; a few have had gripes about the bathrooms being a bit neglected, which is a shame because it can spoil an otherwise lovely visit. And if you're heading there on a weekend, it fills up fast, so you might end up queueing or feeling a tad squished. Overall, though, I'd say it's worth a go if you're in the area—it's got that classic pub magic, as long as you keep expectations realistic and maybe check it out on a quieter day.

Some folks have mentioned issues with the cleanliness, like the women's bathrooms being smelly and not well-maintained, which can really put a dampener on the experience.

-
There have been reports of occasional closures or reopenings with ongoing problems, which could mean it's not always at its best.

Gorgeous pub in high barnet opposite the church. They have a fantastic menu lovely staff and a really relaxed, chilled atmosphere yet it can get very busy, very fast and it's buzzy. There are lots of lovely little cosy nooks to sit in as well as a lovely outside patio with a retractable roof. We had some fantastic food tonight. The beyond meat burger halloumi and the venison ragu pasta. They also have an incredible dessert menu.. its just a really lovely pub you cannot fault it
I count myself lucky the Mitre being my local. It is such a lovely pub, suitable for a quiet drinky, louder birthday celebrations, meetings etc.... However many folks I am with, there always seems to be just the right place for us to be. Celebrated my friends birthday in the side area, perfect. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Just getting used to the fact they now do good food! The refurb luckily hasn't changed the atmos. Still my favourite pub in Barnet.
May 2025- Reopened after roughly a month of being closed. The women’s bathrooms are unfortunately still very smelly and unkept. Toilet paper all over the bathrooms and no sanitary bins provided within the stalls. Extremely disappointing. For these reasons I will be avoiding this pub in the future.
Great venue and I visited it recently.
It is indeed a charming pub and restaurant that exudes vintage vibes. The large venue manages to feel both spacious and cozy, with its classic decor and inviting atmosphere. The blend of historic charm and comfortable ambiance makes it an ideal spot for enjoying a relaxed meal or a few drinks. The menu features a delightful range of dishes, all well-prepared and flavorful. The staff are friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall experience. If you're looking for a place with a unique, vintage feel and plenty of space, Ye Olde Mitre is definitely worth a visit.
Extremely atmospheric pub indeed especially with the Halloween 👻 decorative theme. The staff are very friendly and helpful when choosing a drink to have. I chose a pint of Abbott Ale🍺
