About This Pub
Ah, The Red Lion – it's one of those classic pubs in Barnet that you might stumble upon for a quick pint or a hearty meal, and honestly, it has its charms that make it worth a visit. I love how the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome; they're chatty and attentive, which really adds to the vibe for a laid-back evening with mates. The food's a highlight too – think fresh dough pizzas, solid carvery roasts, and some thoughtful veggie choices, all backed by great deals like half-price offers and a rewards app that gives you stamps for freebies. It's spot on for families or groups looking for value without breaking the bank, and it's nice to see them supporting local charities, which gives it that community feel. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing; I've heard a few folks grumble about the carvery running out of options or not being up to scratch, and some meals coming out undercooked, like doughy pizzas that could use a bit more time in the oven. Plus, the decor feels a tad worn out, almost like it hasn't had a proper refresh in a while, which might put off those after something more contemporary. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're in the area and want a no-fuss spot, but you'd probably want to keep expectations realistic and maybe check the menu in advance to avoid any letdowns – after all, it's the little things that can make or break a night out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming, always making you feel right at home when you pop in for a bite or a drink.
-
They've got a cracking selection of food, from stone-baked pizzas and traditional carvery roasts to plenty of veggie and vegan options, all at really affordable prices.
-
It's a brilliant spot for catching up with friends or family groups, with daily deals like 50% off pizzas and a handy loyalty scheme that rewards you for your visits.
-
The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxed evening out, and they've got some great community initiatives that make you feel good about supporting a local spot.
Cons
-
The carvery can be a bit hit-or-miss with limited options at times, like only having pork and beef available, which might leave you wanting more variety.
-
Some dishes, such as pizzas and small plates, have had complaints about not being cooked properly or served hot, which can spoil the experience.
-
The place feels a bit dated and could do with a spruce-up to make it feel fresher and more modern.
-
It's a shame the carvery only runs until 7pm and they've stopped doing breakfast, so your options are more limited if you're after an early meal.

Really friendly and welcoming staff. Great space to meet friends for drinks and food. Good selection of food including vegetarian. We love the loyalty scheme and rewards.
Great carvery and food all around, service was great too. Darcey was very welcoming to me and my family, definitely recommend for families and groups. Also great for smaller parties
Had a table booked, went in to have a full carvery, when I arrive, there was only pork and beef available and the menu was total rubbish with limited options available. The carvery is going downhill each time . So I decided to grab a nice domino's because carvery was very disappointing. Parking was free which was the only good thing about visiting this place.
We asked for our small plates to come with the mains but they cane separate and the chicken wings weren't very hot. The pizzas were very doughy they needed cooking for longer. Staff were very nice and helpful though! The place needs a revamp it's very old and dated.
