About This Pub
You know, when I think about Ye Olde King's Head, it really stands out as one of those pubs that just gets the basics right while adding a personal touch. The staff are absolute gems – always greeting you with a smile and going out of their way to make sure you're settled, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or a full meal. The food's a proper treat too; I've heard rave reviews about the roast dinners and venison pie, and from what I've gathered, it's all fresh and satisfying, ideal for a Sunday lunch after a stroll. It's got that cosy, welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to linger, and it's brilliant for dog owners or families with young ones, as they handle everything with such ease. On the flip side, though, there are a couple of niggles – like the chips that didn't quite hit the mark once, or the cheeseburger that needed a bit more cheese and oomph to really shine. Overall, it's a solid spot for a good time, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the Macclesfield area, just keep in mind those small areas for improvement to manage your expectations.

Out on our bikes along the canal and saw this sign for said pub. Was looking for somewhere to eat and drink, so glad we went here because it was a lovely experience with great food and drink and the hosts were so friendly. Would recommend 👌
Lovely this cosy little place just off the canal.
It’s our first time visiting today for Sunday lunch. Gorgeous, fresh food & friendly staff. Dog friendly too 🐶 Can highly recommend the roast dinner & the venison pie 🥧
What a gorgeous pub! We visited with our 6 month old baby and the two ladies who greeted us at the bar were so accommodating - finding us a suitable table and just gave us such a warm welcome. Only had a light bite which was lovely (the chips were absolutely gorgeous!) but there are tons of food choices and a great seasonal specials board. Lovely atmosphere, great roaring fire and a proper Northern welcome. Will definitely return when next in the area!
What a great pub, the staff were excellent very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Food was good pub food, it didn’t get five stars as the chips were anaemic and the cheese burger was lacking cheese and needed a bit more to make it to a good burger.
Probably the best pub in Macclesfield! The staff are really welcoming and friendly, and the team that Sally runs is very professional at the same time. The menu is extensive, with excellent choice of daily specials each day. The service is quick and efficient, given the fact that quite often there are plenty of people there. It is 'more than' dog friendly, going out of their way to fuss dogs, and provide water and treats. Outside covered seating is available for the warmer days - and being able to eat outdoors just adds to the overall experience. And the food is always freshly prepared, superbly tasty and never disappoints. As a pensioner I really appreciate the smaller portion Sunday Roast - excellent!
So - if you haven't been then put it on your list - you will probably end up regulars like us - but at busy times, like weekends, you need to book to avoid disappointment!
