About This Pub

Ah, Bollington Brewery Tap—it's one of those places that really warms your cockles when you step inside. Picture this: a beautifully done-up old mill that's been given a new lease of life, making it super comfortable and atmospheric. The beers are where it shines brightest; they've got an ace selection of cask ales that hit the spot, especially if you're into your brews. I love how there's room for everyone—whether you're up for a lively chat in the main area or prefer a quieter corner, and don't forget the outdoor space for those nicer days. The staff are brilliant too, always up for a natter and making you feel right at home. On the flip side, though, a couple of mates have had a right faff with payments; it seems they don't always take cash, which is a bit of a nuisance if you're caught short. And when it gets packed, the noise can ramp up, so it's not always the serene escape you'd hope for. Still, with its prime spot in Macclesfield and that community spirit, it's well worth a visit if you're in the area—just plan ahead and you'll have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The building is absolutely stunning—it's a beautifully restored former mill that makes for a really inviting and comfortable space.
  • They've got an excellent selection of cask ales, including some top-notch milds that beer enthusiasts will love.
  • The atmosphere is spot on, with plenty of tables inside, quieter spots if you fancy a chat, and even some outdoor areas for a bit of fresh air.
  • The staff come across as exceptional, always helpful and adding to the welcoming vibe.
  • It's a great spot to unwind after a hike or a day out, with that community feel that makes you want to come back.
Cons
  • There have been some issues with payment methods; a few folks mentioned they wouldn't take cash, which could leave you scrambling if you're not prepared.
  • The main room can get quite noisy when it's busy, so it might not be ideal if you're after a peaceful pint.
  • With only five days open a week and varying hours, it can be a bit tricky to catch them at the right time.
  • It's not the most widely known spot, so you might miss it if you're just passing through Macclesfield.

I'm not a pub regular so didn't know this place existed but thought to visit when invited by acquaintances after completing a 10 mile hike around local countryside. The essentials for a day long hike include water, packed lunch and plasters but does not include the use of a plastic card which left me without the required mean to pay for a drink. No cash, no custom, no revisit.

Fabulous building. They've done a good job restoring this former mill making it very attractive and comfortable. Excellent cask ales including a very good mild. However, when my partner tried to pay they wouldn't take the legal currency of the country. Fortunately I had a credit card, though I rather wished I hadn't and left them with the poured drinks. Considering all of the recent computer system hacks where large companies can only accept cash, this is ridiculous, so we finished our one drink and left to give our custom to a pub who were happy to take our money.

Nice atmosphere with plenty of tables inside. The main room was full and quite noisy but there's a quieter option and some space outside too. We didn't try the food but others said it was great.

Amazy Brewery venue, in a beautifully restored industrial mill building. If your in Macclesfield & have never been, then it's definitely worth the short walk up from Sunderland street.

We’ve been wanting to come here for years but it only opened recently. The building is stunning, the beer selection is finer than arm hair and the staff are exceptional. Wonderful stuff and it should be a true destination tap. I saw an image of Jack Mackreth in the skirting board.
