About This Pub
Ah, The Dolphin – it's one of those pubs that just warms your heart the moment you step inside, like catching up with an old mate over a pint. From the website and what folks have shared, it's clear this place excels at that genuine community feel, where you can sink into a comfy spot, enjoy a top-notch cask ale from Robinsons, and dive into some classic games like pool or darts. The live sports coverage is spot on too, making it perfect for rallying the lads to watch the footie or rugby in a buzzing atmosphere. And let's not forget the friendly staff who've got rave reviews for their service – it's those little touches that make a visit memorable, whether you're in the beer garden on a sunny day or bringing along the dog for a relaxed afternoon. On the flip side, it's a bit gutting to hear it might be closing soon, which could leave a gap in the local scene. Plus, with hours kicking off later in the day, it might not be your go-to for a quick breakfast bevvy. All in all, if you're after an authentic pub experience in Macclesfield, I'd say give it a try while you can – it's got heaps of charm, but do keep in mind it has that old-school vibe that won't be to everyone's taste.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The Dolphin has a fantastic community vibe, making it feel like a proper local spot where everyone knows your name and you're always welcome.
-
They've got a cracking selection of cask ales from Robinsons Brewery, which really hits the spot for anyone who appreciates a good, traditional pint.
-
It's brilliant for a bit of fun with mates – think pool tables, darts boards, and even live sports on the telly, so you can catch the big games in a lively atmosphere.
-
The staff are absolute gems; from what I've heard, they're friendly and go out of their way to make your visit enjoyable, adding to that warm, welcoming feel.
-
Perks like a beer garden and being dog-friendly make it ideal for a sunny afternoon or if you're popping in with your four-legged friend.
Cons
-
It seems like the pub might be closing down soon, which is a real shame as it could put a dampener on planning future visits.
-
The opening hours are a bit on the late side, starting from midday or even 2 PM some days, so it's not the best if you're after an early morning pint.
-
Being very traditional, it might not suit everyone – if you're looking for something more modern or fancy, this one's got that classic pubby charm but could feel a tad outdated.

Good traditional pub ..
.. very pubby pub not a fan of Robinson's but a cracking pint .. if you don't like this place you don't belong in a pub .. a thing of great beauty 😁😁
Lovely pub, great hosts, shame it's closing
This is a great pub to frequent. I particularly love how the madri glasses are kept cool so when the beer is poured it’s even colder to drink. Great thirst quencher in the heat (or anytime of season!). It’s a lovely traditional pub.
Moved into a new house around the corner a few days ago and had to check out the new local. Good service and decent selection of drinks. Bloke serving was really friendly so can’t wait to see more of him!
