About This Pub

Ah, Ye Olde Black Cross – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a second home, you know? From the moment you walk in, the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, with their chatty nature and genuine enthusiasm turning a simple pint into a memorable evening. The food's a real highlight too; think hearty dishes that are cooked just right and served with a smile, perfect for a satisfying meal without the fuss. That beer garden is a winner when the sun's out, offering a comfy outdoor space to unwind, and it's brilliant how they cater to dogs, making it ideal for a stroll and a stop-off. On the flip side, the hours can be a bit confusing at times, so you might need to plan ahead, and it does fill up quickly on busier nights, which could mean a wait for your spot. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone after a friendly atmosphere and good value, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area – just go with an open mind and enjoy the craic!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant, always friendly and full of energy, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
  • The food is spot on – hot, fresh, and beautifully presented, with options like steak and chips that really hit the spot.
  • It's got a lovely beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun when the weather plays along, complete with a covered area.
  • Dog-friendly vibes all the way, with treats and water on offer, so you can pop in with your four-legged friend without a worry.
  • Prices are really reasonable, making it an easy choice for a casual night out without emptying your wallet.
Cons
  • The opening hours can seem a bit muddled from what I've seen, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any disappointment.
  • It might get a tad busy at times, which could mean waiting for a table or a spot in the garden on popular evenings.

Stopped by Ye Olde Black Cross in Bromsgrove and had a genuinely lovely experience. A big shout-out to Blayk, who was behind the bar—his enthusiasm, friendliness, and great energy really stood out. He made everyone feel welcome and engaged brilliantly with both myself and other customers. The pub itself has a warm and friendly atmosphere, decent food, and a fantastic historic touch—a glass-covered well dating back to 1640, which is a really cool feature you don’t see every day. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area—especially if Blayk’s working!

Absolutely great food, Chef was very warm and welcoming, bright smiles all round. Bar staff kicked up a great conversation which brought smiles to my face. Jay and Stacey are a pleasure to be around and will 100% be coming again!

Just popped in for a pint with the pooch as we were passing by. The barman immediately offered dog treats upon entry, which were gratefully snapped up by the pooch. A short while later, a young man collecting menus from the tables, stopped what he was doing and bought the pooch a bowl of water and a couple more dog treats - such a really polite young man to speak to, too. I'd actually walked the entire High Street looking for somewhere to pop into for a beer with the pooch and this was the first place that looked inviting. Thanks for a lovely couple of pints, great staff, and for being so dog friendly.

Went to Ye Old Black Cross last night. Decided to go as we wanted to try their food and we were not disappointed at all. Really well cooked food, hot and fresh and lovely presentation, steak and chips, mixed grill and ham egg and chips. Nice one chef, keep up the good work 😄 The staff are really welcoming and the pub has a great atmosphere. We have been to the pub before but last night felt different, people playing darts, families eating, well done to all of you who have made this happen. There's a band fortnightly and last night was Vehicle, quality gig, 80s music. We will definitely be back for more. Oh and the food cost £35 for 3 of us, which for the standard of food I thought was very reasonable. Thanks everyone

What a brilliant find! The perfect old country pub - but in the town. Great beer and good friendly welcome. Pool table in a separate area and easy wheelchair access through the sun trap beer garden and ramp access to a comfortable and welcoming lounge. My favourite part of the dog walk through Sanders Park and on to Ye Olde Black Cross for a lunchtime pint. Yes these lovely folk welcome well behaved dogs with well behaved people! UPDATE 😁😁new management. Determined to make a a mark. Great beer good prices and wonderful food in a great atmosphere.
