About This Pub

Ah, Wood Street Bear – what a lovely little find in the heart of Walthamstow! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this bar really nails that perfect pub vibe where you can kick back with a cold craft beer or a glass of wine and just soak in the atmosphere. The DJs spinning tunes from Thursday to Sunday keep things upbeat and energetic, and it's clear from the reviews that the owner, Simon, is a absolute star – always going the extra mile to make sure everyone feels welcome, like when he opened up specially for a birthday bash on a bank holiday. It's got that retro decor that gives it a charming, homely feel, and the crowd seems to be a friendly lot, making it easy to chat and mingle without any awkwardness. On the flip side, though, it's not without its downsides; the place isn't open daily, so you might have to plan around that, and there's no food available yet, which means you'll need to sort out your munchies elsewhere. Still, for a new bar, it's punching above its weight with a stellar 4.9 rating, and if you're into good music and a relaxed setting, it's well worth a visit – just keep in mind it might feel a bit snug on peak nights. All in all, it's a solid spot for a night out with friends, offering that genuine, heartfelt hospitality that's hard to come by these days.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing with fantastic DJs and a great selection of music that keeps things lively and fun.
  • The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a cracking choice of craft beers and wines, perfect for a relaxed evening with mates.
  • The crowd is always spot on – it's a welcoming bunch that creates a real community vibe, like an extension of your own living room.
  • The retro decor adds a nice touch of charm, giving the place a cosy, nostalgic feel without any pretentiousness.
Cons
  • It's not open every day, which can be a bit of a letdown if you're planning a mid-week pint and find it shut.
  • There's no food on offer at the moment, so you'll have to pop elsewhere for a bite to eat alongside your drink.
  • As a newer spot, it might feel a tad small or intimate, which could get cosy on busier nights but might not suit everyone.

Best bar in Walthamstow. Great DJs, great crowd and really nice host. It feels like an extension of my living room.

I had my birthday celebration here a few Mondays ago, and it was such a fantastic experience. The manager was incredibly friendly and hospitable — honestly went above and beyond. The venue isn’t usually open on Mondays, but since my 40th fell on a bank holiday Monday, he opened up especially so I could celebrate on the day. It’s a great spot with a lovely atmosphere, and the beers are amazing. I’m a fan of Aperol Spritz, which wasn’t originally on the menu, but Simon kindly added it just for me. That personal touch made the day feel extra special. Highly recommend!

Usually, when you go into Craft Beer places, they're a bit dead and rely on your enthusiasm for craft beer. The Bear isn't like this. They have a shit-load of DJ's on, from Thurs - Sun and they have all sorts of clubs and activities going on. Simon, the owner, is a top bloke and creates a great atmosphere. He always has banter with his customers and is very friendly to new comers. It's one of the friendliest pubs in Walthamstow, the music is great and the beer is top notch!

Lovely new bar. Got small but good selection of craft beer on tap and selection of wine. Got turntables. Good music on. Nice retro decor. No tv. Great friendly atmosphere. No food or no take away at the moment, but it's just opened so that may change.
