About This Pub

Ah, Mother's Ruin – what a gem tucked away in East London! I've got to say, chatting about this place feels like sharing a round with friends over a well-made G&T. The standout here is their range of gins and liqueurs, all crafted in small batches with home-grown and foraged ingredients, earning them a string of awards that really speak to their quality. You'll find flavours that are a cut above the rest, perfect for sipping neat, mixing into cocktails, or even jazzing up a fizz – and the staff are just brilliant, always on hand with spot-on suggestions or to sort out a personalised event, like they did for that 40th birthday bash that sounded like an absolute blast. It's got a lovely vibe too, with cosy indoor spots and outdoor areas that make it ideal for catching up with pals. On the flip side, though, it's only open weekends, so planning a visit might take a bit of organising if you're not around then. And from what I've seen, it can be on the quiet side at times, which is a shame if you're after a more energetic atmosphere. Still, with such high ratings and glowing feedback on the drinks and service, I'd reckon it's well worth a go for anyone keen on exploring London's gin scene – just keep those limited hours in mind for your next outing!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The gins and liqueurs are absolutely delicious and award-winning, with unique flavours like rose geranium and fennel that make for a real treat in cocktails or on their own.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready with recommendations or to help organise a special event like a birthday bash.
  • It's a fantastic spot for gatherings, with a welcoming ambience that includes both indoor and outdoor seating, and they've got a great range of drinks beyond just gin, including wine, beer, and even non-alcoholic options.
  • The venue shines for parties and events, letting you add personal touches like decorations and playlists, making it feel truly bespoke.
Cons
  • It's only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, which means it's not ideal if you're after a midweek tipple.
  • The place can sometimes feel a bit quiet, so it might not always have that lively buzz you're after on a night out.
  • With no recent reviews in the last six months, it seems like things have been a tad quiet lately, which could mean fewer events or less of a crowd.

Nice craft gin distillery with friendly and helpful staff who recommended several options for gin and non-alcoholic whisky. I tried a glass, on the rocks, of the most “out there” flavoured gin (rose geranium and fennel) and pleasantly enjoyed it. The ambience is nice but seemed a little quiet. I think it could do with more comfortable seating/sofas/lounge style chairs if people want to stay and chat/relax for longer. There also was an empanada bar but this wasn’t operational when I was there.

Mother's Ruin hosted us for our engagement party. We all had a wonderful time. Siobhan and the team were so welcoming, friendly and gave us great service in advance and on the evening. The range of drinks is fab, the gimlets are particularly delicious! Would highly recommend as a beautifully decorative, distinctive and fun party venue.

Beautiful venue, really friendly and helpful team running the bar, great selection of cocktails, and all very easy to organise a party there. Would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a venue for a birthday or similar, and will definitely be going back!

The most delicious gin I’ve had in a while. The gin tasting menu was a fantastic way to try a little bit of everything. The service was superb. Indoor and outdoor seating too!
