About This Pub

Oh, The Duke in Walthamstow is one of those pubs that just draws you in with its welcoming feel and all-round good vibes – it's perfect for popping in for a few pints, enjoying a dance, or tucking into some seriously tasty food like their famous roasts. From what I've gathered from folks who've been there, the staff are generally brilliant, always up for a laugh and making sure everyone's sorted, and it's a top choice for special occasions with its private rooms and beer garden. The music and atmosphere really make it stand out, especially if you're after a place that feels like a proper community hub. But, to be fair, it's not all smooth sailing – there have been a few moans about service slip-ups, like meals not arriving on time or staff not handling issues as well as they could, which might leave you a bit frustrated on a busy night. All in all, it's a solid spot for a get-together with mates, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe plan for the odd bump in the road.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home for a proper good time.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks and tasty food options, like those legendary Brewburgers and hearty Sunday roasts that hit the spot.
  • It's a brilliant spot for all sorts of events, from birthday bashes to wedding receptions, with great spaces and a lively atmosphere.
  • The vibe is spot on for a night out, with good music and that Walthamstow charm that keeps you coming back for more.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit inconsistent at times, with some reports of orders going missing or taking ages to arrive.
  • There have been a few instances where the bar staff weren't as helpful or apologetic as you'd hope, which can sour the experience.
  • It might get a tad chaotic during busy periods, leading to waits that could put a dampener on your visit.

Terrible service, we were given a bottle of wine without glasses, dinner without cutlery or condiments, one meal didn't get put through to the kitchen so a friend waited an hour for food and then the bar tender was very rude instead of apologetic. Given that customer service is a key part of being a bar tender I think the staff are in the wrong line of work as they were incredibly sour like we were an inconvenience.

A Pub/overnight transformed into a club, with Dj, good music, suitable for anyone who wants to feel good in this location. I highly recommend it 🍾🥂🍻👌☺️

We had the wedding reception for my daughter and her husband here in March 2024.  It was the first wedding reception to be held at the Duke although the staff were experienced and it went really well. The Duke had had some redecoration in the weeks before the wedding and it looked great while keeping the ‘urban’ feel that the couple wanted.  We provided a table plan and example table layout and Alex and his team worked really hard to get everything ready for first thing on the day. All we had to do was to get our florist to come down in the morning to add flowers on all the tables and around the room.  The venue was able to seat 80 guests comfortably. The Duke provided the catering and we offered guests a choice of two starters and two mains plus vegetarian option. They were able to cater for gluten free.  Everyone agreed that the food was great and the service was efficient and friendly.  We paid for welcome drinks and wine with the meal then the bar was open from 7.30.  Bar spend was deducted from the overall minimum spend agreed. It was useful having the extra room at the side for the welcome drinks and for guests to leave coats, etc.  The Duke provided door security. We provided our own DJ and after the meal the Duke staff cleared space for the dance floor.  The pool tables were also very popular! All in all we were very happy.  If you want something different to the country house or barn style of reception, the Duke is a great alternative

Visited in the early afternoon on a Sunday in early October. Had a very nice lunch here. Big seating areas indoors and out. Lots of families here for the lunch. Nice food options, all the classics. We had a roast and fish and chips. Both tasty, uncomplicated, good value. Friendly staff. The beer selection was a bit poor, sadly, very little in the way of independent breweries. We had a good experience overall and would happily return.
