About This Pub

Ah, the Hare & Hounds – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper slice of Manchester history, doesn't it? From what I've gathered from the reviews and the buzz around it, folks really love how it's kept its traditional heritage interior intact since the 1920s, making it a cosy spot for sinking into a comfortable chair with a pint of Joe Holts bitter. The staff come across as genuinely friendly and professional, which always makes a visit that bit more enjoyable, and it's spot on for a quick drink before catching an event or just unwinding on a quiet afternoon. On the flip side, it's clear that the place hasn't had a freshen-up in ages, so it might come off as a little tired to some, and the beer options are fairly straightforward, which could leave you wanting more variety if you're in the mood for something different. Overall, it's got that warm, community feel that's hard to beat, but if you're after a more modern vibe, it might not quite hit the mark. I'd say it's worth popping in for the experience – you'll either love its no-nonsense charm or find it a bit old-school, but that's the beauty of these timeless spots, right?

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's a proper traditional pub with a heritage interior that's stood the test of time, making it a real gem for those who appreciate a bit of history.
  • The staff are friendly and professional, always ready with a warm welcome and a good chat.
  • You can enjoy a solid pint of Joe Holts bitter or the occasional guest beer, perfect for a relaxing afternoon or before heading out to an event.
  • It's a welcoming community spot where everyone feels at home, and it's open every day with reliable hours.
Cons
  • The place hasn't seen much in the way of updates, so it can feel a bit worn around the edges and not as fresh as some newer spots.
  • The beer selection is pretty limited, mostly sticking to the classics, which might not excite those after a wider variety.
  • It has that old-school vibe, which some might find a tad outdated or more suited to a quieter crowd, so it could feel a bit traditional for younger groups.

I've been in this pub a few times It's more of an old mans pub, but everyone is welcome. It's a Joseph Hots and, as stood the test of time, way all a round it is changing . This place has not seen a lick of paint in years . Bar lady on the day was friendly and professional. It's a pub for a quick drink ,and it's great for all the amenities nearby, shops , bus station, printworks, football museums, Manchester cathedral, all within walking distance

Went for a pint of the golden nectar with the boyfriend, at this lovely establishment. To my utter delight we were served by the softest pair of welsh hands I have ever come across in my 33 years of living. God bless Aidan Jones, long live the Hare & Hounds X

A classic CAMRA Heritage pub. I first visited in the autumn of 1974 so almost a 50 year anniversary visit. Albrecht came with us and loved the tiled interior. I had two pints of Joe Holts bitter. Loved it. They also had a guest beer, White Rat by Ossett brewery. This is a great community pub with 3 rooms around the bar. Join the discussion...is it egg & chips or is it chips and egg? Albrecht wants a return visit asap.

In my Camra book of heritage interiors. Said to be unspoilt since 1925 renovation. A proper old style pub. Sadly, there aren't that many left, but Manchester has a good number. A quiet afternoon pint. Friendly service. Just Holts bitter on handpump. A really nice traditional beer.
