About This Pub

Ah, Willow Tavern – what a gem of a place in Failsworth, Manchester. I've got to say, it's one of those pubs that just hits the mark for a good night out or a casual meal. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is an absolute standout; folks are raving about homemade dishes like cheese and onion pie and jacket potatoes that are cooked to perfection, making it feel like a proper treat without breaking the bank. The staff really make the difference too – they're so approachable and eager to ensure you're having a great time, which adds that homely vibe you don't always get elsewhere. And if you're like me and enjoy a bit of fresh air, the beer garden is just lovely for those sunny afternoons. It's also brilliant for dog owners, as they welcome your furry friends with open arms. On the flip side, without a website, it's not the easiest to plan ahead, and it does get packed sometimes, so you might find yourself in a queue or sharing space with a lively crowd. All in all, it's a solid spot for us pub goers looking for good value, tasty grub, and a friendly chat – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant, with everything cooked from scratch – think delicious cheese and onion pie or perfect jacket potatoes that leave you wanting more.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and genuinely care about your experience, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's super dog-friendly, which is a real treat if you're popping in with your four-legged mate for a pint and a bite.
  • They've got a lovely beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun on warmer days, adding to that relaxed pub atmosphere.
  • Convenient location with parking nearby and a bus stop just a stone's throw away, making it easy to get to.
Cons
  • No website means it's a bit tricky to check out the menu or details in advance, so you might have to just turn up and see what's on offer.
  • It can get quite busy at times, especially if it's a popular spot, which might mean waiting for a table or dealing with a lively crowd.

Last minute decision to eat as we were passing and so glad that we did. I went inside first to see if I could eat and take my dog in, the answer from Zoe was "absolutely yes! we love dogs here" It was quite busy but she showed us to a central table with plenty of room and made a lovely fuss of my border collie Kaya. And even gave her some treats All the menu looked really good and very reasonably priced but we settled on the large sharing platter and chunky cheesy chips. 10 minutes later this huge plate of chicken wings, garlic bread, halloumi fries, wedges, onion rings, coujons and salad appeared with some lovely tubs of dips. And the chunky chips were exactly that chunky. It all tasted as good as it looked as well and the staff were so friendly, Will 100% be returning and soon too.
