About This Pub
Ah, The Millgate Pub – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local in Failsworth, you know? I've got to hand it to them; the team there are absolute stars, always greeting you with a smile and making sure everything runs smoothly, which makes it such a welcoming spot for popping in with the family or mates for a chat over a cold pint. Their Sunday roast is something I'd rave about – think juicy meats, heaps of seasonal veg, and all the trimmings you could want, plus those unbeatable deals like two mains for a steal during lunch hours. It's clear they put effort into creating a community vibe with loads of events and that lovely beer garden for sunnier days. On the other hand, it's not all perfect; I've seen a fair few folks mentioning times when the food didn't quite hit the mark, like chips arriving cold or veg that's a bit overdone, which is a shame because it could really elevate what they've got going on. Still, with an overall solid rating, it's worth giving it a go if you're in Manchester – just keep expectations balanced and maybe stick to their stronger points for a top-notch visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly welcoming and make you feel right at home, which really adds to the cosy vibe.
-
It's a brilliant spot for family get-togethers, with plenty of events and a lovely beer garden for enjoying a pint in the fresh air.
-
Their Sunday roast is a real winner, packed with fresh trimmings, generous portions, and even bottomless gravy – perfect for a traditional meal.
-
They offer great value deals, like two mains for under £22 during pub lunches, making it ideal for midweek catch-ups with friends.
-
The atmosphere is warm and community-focused, with a calendar full of family-friendly activities that bring people together.
Cons
-
Some meals can be hit or miss with quality, like cold chips or overcooked veg, which takes the edge off the experience.
-
A few diners have mentioned the food not always being fresh or hot, such as disappointing corn on the cob or dry meats.
-
It can feel a bit pricey for what you get at times, especially if the dishes don't quite live up to expectations.
-
The carvery has had mixed feedback, with some finding the portions good but the overall taste underwhelming compared to other local spots.
-
While it's generally family-oriented, occasional inconsistencies might leave you wishing for a more reliable meal.

Went for a family dinner in the Easter holidays family of 4. The pub is welcoming and friendly aswel as the staff, which served us straight away. The food itself was lovely and fresh and definitely recommend, good portions to. Choose from outside sitting to indoor sitting as there is plenty of tables to choose from. Definitely will be back
To say we was disappointing was an under statement. Wow how could u get a corn on cob and fries wrong ? Corn was hardly warm the disgusting butter they put on it didn’t melt so that says it all ? The fries cold not fresh . I mean I hate McDonald but at least they can cook fries. My daughter had a Caesar Salad the chicken wasn’t great and the croutons were big bits of old bread . Honestly . The girl
Didn’t even ask how’s the good no wonder she must knew . Honestly disgusting. Wondered why not many people were eating . Best thing was sitting outside with our pint and baby in sun . Never again
Food awful, warmed left over chicken, corn cob definitely not fresh.chips edible if you like thin chips. Mixed grill very poor quality meats.
My husband and I held our Silver Wedding Anniversary celebration on Friday 21March in the Function Room. There were around 40 guests.
The room was a perfect size, everything laid out ready for our table decorations, well in advance of the start time.
We ordered buffet number 2 for our guests. This was a first class choice. The standard and quality of the food was second to none and the portions were beyond generous. Every single person commented on the flavour, presentation and service.
The bar staff were helpful, friendly and extremely professional and provided a consistently high standard of service all evening.
We would highly recommend The Millgate for any special event in their Function room.
Four of us had a carvery. Not impressed. Sproups were horrible. The veg was over cooked, whilst the meat was dry. It was not cheap either. Will not going back. There are much better places around
