About This Pub

Ah, the Wig & Walnut – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a breath of fresh air when you step inside. From the reviews I've come across, the staff really shine; they're chatty, helpful sorts who make you feel right at home, whether you're there for a quick drink or celebrating something special like a milestone birthday. The food's another highlight – think proper pub classics done well, with burgers and roasts that hit the spot, and those occasional offers like 30% off mains make it even more appealing for a budget-friendly night out. Plus, if you're into the outdoors, the beer garden's a gem for soaking up the sun with a cold one. On the flip side, it does get packed on busier evenings, so you might find yourself waiting a tad longer than you'd like, and it's geared towards traditional tastes rather than anything fancy, which could leave some wanting more variety. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed get-together; I'd say give it a go if you're in the area – you might just end up making it your regular spot.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, attentive, and go the extra mile to make your visit special, like sorting out decorations for a birthday or handling large groups with ease.
  • The food is spot on, with hearty pub classics, tasty burgers, and generous portions that leave you satisfied, plus deals like 30% off mains make it even better value.
  • It's super dog-friendly, welcoming muddy paws with treats and towels, which is perfect if you're popping in with your four-legged mate.
  • The beer garden is a lovely spot for a pint on a sunny day, adding to that relaxed, community vibe the place has going on.
  • They've got a great atmosphere for families and groups, with options for events and a warm, inclusive feel that makes it feel like a proper local hangout.
Cons
  • It can get quite busy at peak times, which might mean a bit of a wait for your table or service, even if the team does their best to keep up.
  • Being in Northampton, it might not be the easiest spot for folks from further afield, and while the menu's solid, it sticks to traditional pub fare so it won't suit those after something more adventurous.

Recently went to the Wig and Walnut as part of a large (15+) group. We were welcomed and settled in a quiet area of the pub. Our dogs were welcomed with towels and treats on hand for them. It was quite busy so we had pre ordered our food which all came out at the same time. The portions are good, the food was hot and the littles all cleared their plates. Some of us had room for dessert. The menu choice is wide with options for vegan and vegetarian meals. The children's menu is good too. The whole staff were lovely from the manager to the bar staff and the guy who brought out sauces and cleared the tables. If we are in the area again we will visit.

Amazing service! We celebrated my dad’s 70th and his cancer-free news at the Wig and Walnut. The team couldn’t have been more accommodating and made our time at lunch so special. They even decorated the table with decorations and balloons I dropped off the day before. Brilliant team, great atmosphere, yummy food and lovely setting!

Came for a mid week dinner, I had the steak, my partner had a burger and our nanna had fish and chips. We were all very pleased, the food was lovely. We were greeted by a gentleman at the door who asked if we had any dietary requirements and showed us to our clean table. Service was great the atmosphere was great, nothing to fault. We will come back and try the pie next time as table next to us got one and it looked great. Steak was cooked perfectly and the Gravey is so nice. See u again.
