About This Pub

You know, when I think about the Whitegate Inn Beefeater, it's got that familiar pub charm that's just right for a casual catch-up with mates or a family outing in Oldham. The staff really stand out – they're so approachable and on point, always checking in to make sure everything's tickety-boo, which adds a lovely touch to the whole experience. I love how they've nailed the breakfast scene with plenty of choices that cater to all tastes, including some solid vegan options, and those lunchtime bargains make it easy on the wallet without compromising on a good feed. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; I've heard a few tales of meals not quite hitting the mark, like steaks that end up a bit overdone or kids' dishes that don't quite satisfy, and that queue for the coffee can be a right nuisance on busy days. All in all, it's a decent bet for a straightforward night out, but you'd want to keep an eye on the finer details to avoid any disappointments – still, I'd say it's worth popping in if you're nearby.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, quick, and eager to help, making you feel right at home.
  • Breakfast is a real highlight with a great selection of options, including tasty continental bits, hot dishes, and even vegan choices like bacon and sausages.
  • They've got some cracking deals, like the daytime lunch offer with eight mains under £8, perfect for a budget-friendly bite without skimping on flavour.
  • Service is generally speedy, even when the place is buzzing, so you won't be left hanging around too long.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss, with some reports of overcooked dishes like dry steaks that don't quite live up to expectations.
  • There's often a queue for the coffee machine, which might put a dampener on things if you're in a rush for your caffeine fix.
  • A few inconsistencies crop up, such as items like yogurt and fruit not always being kept properly chilled, which is a bit of a letdown.
  • Kids' meals have had mixed reviews, with some feeling they're not quite up to snuff in terms of portion or quality.

Great breakfast cooked quite well and served quickly. Buffet was good with good selection of pastries and cereals. Best coffee from a machine, but quite a queue as only 1 machine. Staff excellent, service quick and friendly despite being quite busy.

Great evening with family and friends very friendly and professional and very very helpful. Our personal host Lauren couldn't help and do enough for us. Always smiling and delivered food and drinks promptly and efficiently, always asking if we were OK and if we needed anything.

We really enjoyed our breakfast here. £10.99 for continental and hot food. the cooked breakfast is made to order and there's vegan bacon and sausages. there's also lots of teas, cereals and the crossiants are delicious. they will provide soya milk on request too

This is based over a week of staying at the next door hotel and dining here for a week. Breakfast is a decent option of continental and hot foods. The option for a full English breakfast is available and you do not need to get all parts which is nice. Some days the yogurt and fruit was not on ice which have cause for concern in regards to food poisoning. I highly recommend the breakfast. If you have kids take advantage of the kids eat free deal. Dinner is just as good. The ribeye is cooked per order and was exactly how I requested it the both times I ordered it. Chips were a little undercooked but not too much where you could not eat them. On the Sunday the restaurant would stop taking orders at 8 but then they refused to let anyone go eat in the restaurant at 7pm which is not great for business. We were told by the hotel they would be open and they had also been given wrong information which got resolved and we thankfully got to eat. Food was good as normal. The furniture in some spots could do with repair as it's badly damaged which isn't pleasing on the eye. The decor is starting to look outdated in some places. During some service it can be hard to get a server to come back to your table if you need anything else and most likely will need to flag them down. They do like to talk among themselves instead of checking in on guests. Overall a good place to get a decent meal and would come back for breakfast or dinner

The eatery is losing customers... I was deeply disappointed with last night's dining experience. The ribeye was extremely dry, overcooked, and lacked freshness, which was not consistent with the quality I experienced previously. Additionally, my son’s Kids’ Meal was inadequate, consisting of only three pieces of corn, and the burger was unacceptably dry, served without any ketchup.
