About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Mare & Foal, it just feels like that reliable local spot where you can pop in for a chat and a pint without any fuss. The staff are absolute gems, always greeting you with a smile and making sure you're looked after, even on those busy nights with live music or quizzes going on. It's got this great mix of areas – whether you're up for a game of pool, watching the match in the beer garden, or just settling in for a decent meal with the family – and they've got some top-notch cask ales that really hit the spot. That said, it's not without its quirks; the pub doesn't kick off until 4pm on most weekdays, so if you're fancying a midday tipple, you might end up twiddling your thumbs. And while the food seems solid for what it offers, like their tasty Sunday breakfast, it doesn't sound like there's a massive variety, which could be a downside if you're after something more adventurous. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a good night out – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the niggles.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home, always quick to serve even when it's buzzing.
-
It's got a really welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for all sorts, from families enjoying a meal to groups playing pool or darts.
-
Loads of great facilities like a beer garden, sports on the TV, and cask ales on tap – it's a proper spot for a relaxed pint.
-
They host fun events such as quizzes and live music, adding to the lively vibe and giving you more reasons to pop in.
-
Excellent value for money, like their Sunday breakfast, and it's dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry friend along.
Cons
-
Opening hours can be a bit late on weekdays, starting at 4pm, which might not suit if you're after an early drink.
-
Not much detail on the food options beyond basics, so if you're looking for a wide menu, you might find it a tad limited.
-
It can get busy during events, and while service is speedy, you might still have to plan around the crowds if you're not keen on waits.

Amazing place for a drink with a very diverse atmosphere suitable for all.
Staff are all so friendly and really make everyone feel so welcome.
The pub feels more sectioned off to suit all including darts and pool for the younger ones and a nice meal area for families to enjoy too.
Sunday breakfast was great. Very good value and delicious.
Wednesday Quiz is a brilliant night out.
A lovely friendly pub. We'd gone in to watch an act we see regularly, and it's good to see a pub that still puts on live music. The staff were quick and efficient, even though it was really busy, and they even had a cask beer on(Pedigree).
Went to see Lee's Rudeboy Roadshow. Lee always gives great entertainment. The pub was lively with a friendly atmosphere. Pleased to see that there was a cask beer on and it was a good one, Marston Pedigree. The bar staff worked hard so despite it being busy you never had to wait long to be served.
Lovely pub, great staff! My son loves coming in too and it’s always a nice atmosphere
