About This Pub

Ah, the Boat & Horses – what a little gem it is in Chadderton. I have to say, if you're after a proper pub experience, this place really delivers with its delicious carveries and Sunday roasts that leave you feeling well fed and cheerful. The staff are an absolute delight, always on hand with a warm welcome and efficient service that makes you feel like you're catching up with old friends. Plus, being right by the canal and near the M60, it's super convenient for a quick stop after a gig or some shopping, and that beer garden is just the ticket for soaking up the sun with a perfectly poured pint from JW Lees. On the flip side, it does get packed out at times, so you might need to plan ahead to snag a spot, and I've heard the odd grumble about things not being quite as smooth on busier days, which is fair given that overall rating. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out or a meal – honest, it's got that homely charm that keeps you coming back, but just keep an eye on the timings to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely spot on – their carveries and Sunday roasts are proper hearty and full of flavour, with unlimited gravy and Yorkshire puds that make it a real treat for a weekend get-together.
  • The staff are so friendly and helpful; it's like chatting with mates behind the bar, always ready with a smile and quick service to make you feel right at home.
  • It's in a brilliant spot near the M60 and close to places like Co-op Live, making it dead easy to pop in for a pint after a day out or a big shop at Costco.
  • The beer garden is a lovely escape, perfect for enjoying a fresh cask ale on a sunny day, and being owned by JW Lees means the pints are always top quality.
  • If you're looking for a stay, the rooms are comfy and well-kept, with clean, spacious setups that add a nice bonus to the pub experience.
Cons
  • It can get quite busy, especially on weekends or during events, so you might have to wait for a table or book ahead to avoid disappointment.
  • The operating hours aren't always crystal clear from what I've seen, which could leave you scratching your head if you're planning a visit outside peak times.
  • While the overall vibe is great, that 4.1 rating suggests there might be the odd off day with service or food, even if the recent feedback has been glowing.

Had a lovely meal here yesterday. Food was great and Emily who served us couldn't have been more helpful. An excellent member of staff 😁😁.

Upon arrival, the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, tidy, and the bed was very comfortable. Evening meal was excellent and breakfast very good, plenty of choice. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, and it gives better value than some of the bigger names around.

Thanks for a lovely meal yesterday tea time. I had the cheese and onion pie which was delicious. My husband ordered steak, well done. When it arrived it was more medium to well done but he said it was the nicest steak he'd had, so would be having it medium from now on. Thanks for converting him !

Straight off the M60. Perfect location and easy to find. Easy check in and so friendly and helpful. Rooms were large, beds super comfortable as were the pillows. Lovely bathrooms too. Used the Restaurant which had a huge menu. Quick service and again, very friendly. We stayed here as we were going to Coop Live. An UBER there cost £12 and a black tax back was £20 (In case you're doing the same). Breakfast the following morning was also fabulous. Great choice, hot and cold. I highly recommend the Boat and Horses. Great value for money, good location, very friendly and comfortable. 10/10. Thank you

What a fabulous hotel and adjoining pub. The check in staff are really friendly and it was a simple check in. I’d asked for a quiet room and they’d taken the time to sort my request. The rooms are spotless, high end, and really nicely decorated. The food in the sister JW Lees pub is great and bar staff were also friendly. There’s a good selection of craft beers and food prices are reasonable, with good sized portions. I was working in the local area and will be staying here again when I’m back in this area.
