About This Pub

Ah, the White Swan in Cambridge – it's one of those places that really captures the heart of a traditional pub, doesn't it? I've got to say, I love how they've got this brilliant lineup of cask ales and a gin menu that's just spot on for unwinding with mates. The food's another highlight; those locally sourced dishes and stonebaked pizzas are proper tasty, and it's ace that they're serving them up with fresh ingredients. Plus, if you're into sports, it's a gem – they show all sorts of live matches, so you can catch the rugby or Gaelic games without missing a beat. The location's spot on too, right in that lively, bohemian area that's full of character and draws in a mix of locals and students for a good old chat. But, and I have to be straight with you, it's not all roses. I've heard from a few folks that some of the staff can be a bit off-putting, like they're not always in the mood for a friendly natter, which can spoil the fun. There are tales of a rougher side to things, with management stepping in a bit heavy-handedly, and honestly, the portions on the food don't always match the price tag – you might end up wanting more for your money. Booking can be a faff as well, with places apparently snapped up even when it doesn't look busy. Overall, it's got that warm, community feel going for it, but I'd suggest going in with your eyes open and maybe checking the mood on the day. If you're after a solid pub experience with a side of excitement, it's worth a punt, but don't expect perfection every time.

Cons
  • Some staff can be a bit rude or unapproachable, which puts a damper on the experience, especially if you're just out for a relaxed evening.

The bartender is always rude when I come in with my friends. He has a go at us because we won't do rounds and always speaks to us in such a mean tone. I think his name is Chris, he doesn't seem to actually like interacting with customers at all. I do come back as its the only place open, I just hope that he learns how to greet customers and not make them feel like an inconvenience every time they come in. The other staff seem lovely, its just unfortunate that we have been served by him most times we have come in for a quiet drink. Nothing against the pub at all.

The owner/manager bullied a small group of people instead of promote calm & safety. As a consequence, there was a typical mess outside the pub. Go to this pub only if you're ok with rough environment, a bully, or you can't attend the other sports club.

Turned up at 12pm opening time on a Wednesday. The car park was empty. Went in and staff were setting up for the day. Asked the person (unsure if he was the manager) if we could eat. He said you should book. Apparently all the tables were already booked! I was standing there and he turned around d and took a phone call totally ignoring me. Just wanted a fish finger sandwich not a full meal! We walked out and will not be going back! Rude staff and made me feel embarrassed! It looks lovely and I think the food is nice but the man behind the bar needs some lessons in people skills and hospitality! The place has had great reviews but with my experience will not get one!

Nice quaint pub with direct access to the Mendips. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was really good, if not small portions for the price, and they had a decent selection of beers! Very dog friendly too

Came here on a rainy day on a Friday. Walkable distance between train station and center of the city. Stopped by here as the first of many spots while exploring during a day out and it was not too busy. We got our drinks quickly and were able to find a large group table near the back. Lots of spaces connected that help to take it not feel overhelmingly loud, crowded, etc. the back area is proabably amazing in better weather.
