About This Pub

Ah, The Earl of Beaconsfield – it's one of those classic Cambridge pubs that I've heard plenty about from mates, and from what I've gathered, it's got that warm, community feel that's hard to beat. With an overall rating of 4.2, most folks seem to love the friendly staff and the locals who make you feel like part of the gang right away. The beer selection is spot on, with decent prices that won't leave you out of pocket, and those live music nights, especially the open mics on Thursdays and Sundays, sound like a real treat if you're up for a singalong or just soaking in the atmosphere. It's got this cosy charm with great playlists that keep the energy up, making it a go-to for a relaxed evening. On the flip side, though, there was that one recent review where someone had a rough encounter with a staff member who wasn't at their best – a bit grumpy and not quite up to scratch on the hygiene front, which is a shame because it could sour an otherwise nice visit. The hours seem a bit all over the place too, so you'd want to plan ahead to make sure it's open. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a chat, but keep in mind it might have the odd off day, so go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a great time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff and locals are really welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers at decent prices, perfect for a casual night out without breaking the bank.
  • Live music and open mic nights, especially on Thursdays and Sundays, add a fun vibe – it's a great spot if you're into that sort of thing.
  • The atmosphere is lovely and cosy, with great Spotify playlists that keep things lively and enjoyable.
Cons
  • One recent experience mentioned a staff member who seemed a bit off, with reports of them being miserable and not the freshest – which could put a damper on your visit.
  • The operating hours look a tad confusing from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking to avoid turning up when it's closed.
  • With only a few recent reviews and one being quite negative, it might not be as consistently reliable as some other spots these days.

Visited the Kingston Arms a couple of weeks ago, I noticed there was a new member of who I think is also a local because I recognised him from when I've been in a few times before. He was so miserable, and absolutely stank of BO as if he hadn’t change his top in a while or washed. I have a very sensitive stomach and safe to say I didn’t want him handling next drink or me getting near him to smell it again so went elsewhere after. Shame as the pub is a favourite of mine when I visit Cambridge.
