About This Pub

Ah, The Petersfield – it's one of those neighbourhood gems in Cambridge that really feels like the heart of the community, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's got this relaxed, inviting décor that makes it perfect for everything from a casual family meal to unwinding with friends over a spritz in their sunny garden. The staff are absolute stars, always quick to sort you out and make you feel welcome, which is a big plus when you're after that genuine pub experience. On the food front, things like the burgers and chips are spot on – proper satisfying and well-cooked – and they've got some exciting options for events, like their Greek-inspired supper clubs or quizzes, which keep things lively. But, and I say this as a mate giving straight advice, it's not all perfect; some reviews mention the roasts can be inconsistent, with meat that's sometimes tough or not quite hot enough, which might leave you a tad disappointed if that's what you're craving. Still, with a solid 4.4 rating overall, it's clear they get a lot right, and for a moderate-priced spot that's dog-friendly and buzzing with activity, I'd reckon it's worth a visit – just keep your expectations balanced and maybe skip the roasts if you're feeling picky!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is just lovely – it's a real community hub with a warm, welcoming vibe that's perfect for catching up with mates over a pint or a meal.
  • The service is spot on; staff like Catherine and Toby are quick and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • Food highlights include cracking burgers and chips, plus generous portions of roasts and other dishes that hit the spot, especially with options for veggies and even alcohol-free drinks.
  • It's dog-friendly and has a brilliant pub garden that's ideal for soaking up the sun with a spritz in hand during those longer evenings.
  • They've got a great lineup of events, like quizzes, supper clubs, and sports screenings, which add to the fun and make it easy to pop in regularly.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit hit or miss with the cooking; for instance, the roast beef might not be served hot enough, or the chicken could turn out tough, which is a shame after waiting for it.
  • Certain meats like the beef rump have been described as bland and chewy, so if you're after consistently top-notch roasts, it might not always deliver.
  • It can get busy quickly, especially on Sundays, meaning you might have to time your visit right to avoid the crowds or snag a good table.
  • While the portions are generous, that doesn't always make up for the occasional flavour shortcomings, leaving you wishing for a bit more polish on the plate.

We had a lovely time yesterday- roast dinner then quiz with friends. Roast beef was delicious though could have been served hotter, and the roast chicken was very tough. It’s not a deal-breaker though as the service and ambience of this place are great.

Superb vege Sunday roast with a couple of glasses of wine. I was the first person in (at midday) but it quickly filled with punters inc a few dogs!

Friendly staff, great atmosphere and tasty roast vege perfect for a cold afternoon. My wife’s pork belly was fantastic but unfortunately the beef rump roast was bland and chewy.

Local Pub Trying to write reviews for the Cambridge pubs therefore entered this pub. Attracted by the onion rings of other table while entering the pub. Therefore we ordered onion rings too. The food was in generous portions. The onion rings and fish&chips reminded me of Henry's of Hunstanton. Both restaurants didn't have basic seasoning therefore tasted bland. You need to add salt onto them. But at least under the batter, there was a genuinely big fish fillet inside. The onion rings were good quality. Everything was hot and well fried. The burger was quite lean therefore relatively dry. That made me feel salty. At least it's a brioche bun. But still, the prices were very reasonable. Nice, clean and quiet environment. The staff were friendly, sorry the system did not let me give the service 6 star ratings.
