About This Pub

Ah, the White Horse Inn in Ruddington is one of those pubs that warms you up straight away with its lively yet traditional charm – it's got that perfect casual feel for popping in after a stroll. The food really shines, with pub favourites made from local goodies, and options like Sunday roasts or weekend breakfasts that folks rave about for their taste and heartiness. It's brilliant for families or if you're with the dog, thanks to the outdoor spots and welcoming extras like highchairs and free WiFi. On the upside, service is usually top-notch, making every visit feel effortless and enjoyable. But, fair's fair, it can fall short on packed days, like during events where things get a bit chaotic – think overpriced pints or skimpy portions that might leave you wanting more. Still, overall, it's a solid choice for a good night out, as long as you pick your timing right and keep expectations balanced for a proper pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with hearty pub classics made from local ingredients that really hit the spot.
  • It has a lovely, relaxed and traditional atmosphere, making it perfect for a casual catch-up with friends or family.
  • Plenty of thoughtful amenities like outdoor seating, a beer garden, and being dog-friendly add to the welcoming feel.
  • Service is generally spot on, with friendly staff who make you feel right at home, especially for Sunday lunches or breakfasts.
Cons
  • There can be disorganisation on busy days, like festivals, with reports of no available tables or even safety issues such as locked doors.
  • Some grumbles about portion sizes, such as a Sunday roast coming with just one measly slice of meat when you expect a bit more.
  • Drinks might feel overpriced at times, like a pint going for £6 when others nearby are cheaper, which can leave a sour taste.

Went here on Ruddfest Saturday. The place is a disgrace. No tables or chairs in the pub. £6.00a pint for Shipstones Original. No one else charged this much, but more concerning, beer served in polystyrine cups NOT GOVERNMENT STAMPED. and the main door PADLOCKED. This is a FIRE DOOR and MUST be unlocked with people present. The only good bit was the beer was quite good.

Great pub, good food and great service. Food is delicious but ordered Sunday Roast Beef and was given 1 laser sliced piece. Who serves a roast, with 1 piece of meat!

Thought we would give it a try. "New farm shop opens at Nottinghamshire pub that's hoping to beef up custom." Can sit in or take out. We did the latter. two x decaf tea's and two cakes £11. Very reasonable. We wouldn't usually go in a pub during the day however they have created a welcoming reason to go in. Artisan farm shops are lovely, so can be the prices! However we did pickup some locally made Gin while we were there! We would certainly feel comfortable sitting in for tea and cake. Dogs welcome, nice and warm on a cold day. Really welcoming staff and friendly. I'm sure its early days in them setting up. Our only recommendation would be to cover over all, not just one lot, of the cakes on the front counter. The farm shop is open 10am to 3pm, Wednesday to Saturday. The pub is open for longer. It was really nice. We'd go again and feel comfortable sitting in with our tea and cake.

We had a spontaneous visit after the heritage railway and country park, its a nice place and had a kids menu which is always useful for the little people. Food was very nice and we didn't need to wait too long, outside area was packed which means we didn't have to worry about kids disrupting other peoples meals as we stayed inside! Price was generally not too bad, although kids meal could have been a tad cheaper, especially for very small people...!
