About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The Ruddington Arms – it's one of those pubs that really pulls at the heartstrings with its emphasis on fresh, seasonal food sourced from local farmers, making every bite feel like a proper treat. I've heard from folks who've raved about the delicious starters and well-executed classics, and honestly, when it's good, it's brilliant – that welcoming atmosphere just draws you in for a pint and a chat. But, and I say this as a mate who's been around a few pubs, it's not without its flaws; some have had disappointing experiences with fatty meats or overly busy evenings where the noise and tight spaces make it feel a bit chaotic, and the staff can sometimes seem a tad off their game when things get hectic. Still, with a solid 4.4 rating overall, it's worth a visit if you're in Nottingham – just maybe pop in on a quieter day to get the best of it, and keep an eye on those specials for a real winner.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely top-notch, with a focus on seasonal and local ingredients that make every meal feel fresh and full of flavour – it's like they've got a real passion for what they're serving up.
-
Service can be really helpful and attentive, especially when it's quieter, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
They've got a great vibe with a welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere that captures that true local pub spirit, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
-
Options like takeaway and their 'Ruddy Good Shop' for hand-selected produce add a nice extra touch, so you can take a bit of the magic home with you.
Cons
-
Food can be hit or miss; some dishes, like the roast beef, might turn out fatty or underwhelming, which is a shame when you're looking forward to a proper pub meal.
-
It gets incredibly busy and noisy at times, with cramped spaces and wobbly tables that make it hard to enjoy a chat or a special occasion without feeling a bit squashed.
-
Staff aren't always on top form – they can come across as grumpy or rushed, especially during peak hours, which takes away from the overall experience.
-
The menu might not suit everyone, with some finding the flavours a tad overwhelming or limited choices for certain preferences, like vegans having to make do with what's on offer.

Popped in for a Sunday Roast as we're new to the area and are just a five minute walk from the pub.
Service was helpful, friendly, and attentive but the food was lacking. My partner and I both had the roast beef with a side of cauliflower cheese. Beef was very fatty and rather than a few slices we were given one huge slab each which was a strange choice. Roast potatoes weren't cooked enough and the cauliflower cheese was bland and undercooked.
It was a nice touch being given extra gravy from the get go rather than having to ask but a lacklustre meal non the less. Given the price I expected a far far better standard and quality. We also mentioned when ask the points I've raised above and there was no effort to reconcile the matter - which I think is important to mention also.
We left disappointed and won't be rushing back.
We were very disappointed with our visit on Sunday. We booked a table a month in advance for a 40th birthday get together. It was very busy, cramped and very noisy. Our table was wobbly and small. The staff were all very grumpy, unfriendly and rushed off their feet. We all had the roast dinner. The pork came and was a huge chop like slice of pork! I had the chicken and it was a very small portion and it wasn't very well presented on the plate, seemed to have been thrown on the plate. The gravy was like water! The dessert menu was extremely limited with mainly ice cream! After ordering dessert it took ages to arrive!
Staff were bumping into our chairs throughout and it was too noisy to carry a conversation!
Definitely will not be back! I wouldn't recommend this pub 😡
We went on a Tuesday afternoon so it was really quiet but the service was good and the food was out quickly. We had camembert to start which was delicious! Then we both had the beef burger for main. My husband loved it, but it was abit too many different flavours for me. But that's just personal reference!
My absolute favourite restaurant.
The headline here is the food, which is of excellent quality; a welcome balance between well-executed British pub classics and adventurous, "chefy" modern British cuisine.
The restaurant exudes a true local spirit, embodying a welcoming and unpretentious atmosphere. While it can sometimes get a little loud in the dining room, this adds to its charm rather than detracts from it. The service, perhaps just one step down from excellent, is consistently good and perfectly aligns with the relaxed and approachable vibe the restaurant seems to aim to create.
We had a lovely dinner at The Ruddington Arms with some friends and really enjoyed ourselves, the food, and drinks. I’m not usually one to enjoy eggplant but I thought their vegan eggplant dish was quite tasty. I usually order no eggplant but it was the only vegan dish on the menu so I had to take a chance on it and I’m glad I did.
They had plenty of ciders and beers to choose from to drink in addition to some cocktails. We would definitely come back if we were back in the area.
