About This Pub
Ah, the White Hart Tap – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the beer is always spot on, with a fine selection that includes some cracking real ales and even newer brews like those from Burnt Mill, which is a nice surprise if you're into trying something different. The food doesn't disappoint either; I've heard rave reviews about their Sunday lunches, whether you're after a hearty chicken roast or a veggie option like the nut roast, which apparently stands out as one of the best around. The staff are dead friendly, and that beer garden sounds like a proper suntrap with plenty of seating, ideal for a lazy afternoon with mates. On the flip side, it's a small, back-street spot, so it might not be the first place you'd stumble upon if you're new to the area, and their website is a bit sparse, which could leave you wanting more info before you head over. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed pint and a bite, with that genuine local warmth that makes you want to return – I'd say it's well worth seeking out for a proper pub experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is absolutely spot on – they've got a great range of cask and keg options that change regularly, making every visit feel fresh.
-
The food is a real highlight; Sunday roasts like the chicken and nut roast are top-notch, and those onion rings are a must-try – proper pub grub done right.
-
It's got a lovely, welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff who make you feel right at home, plus a cracking beer garden that's perfect for a sunny afternoon.
-
Being a proper unpretentious local, it's a refreshing change from the busier city centre spots, with a cosy vibe that makes it easy to settle in for a chat.
Cons
-
The website is a bit basic and doesn't give much detail, so you might need to pop in or check elsewhere for the full scoop on what's on offer.
-
As it's tucked away on a back street, it could feel a tad out of the way if you're not familiar with St Albans, though that's part of its charm for some.

Onion rings are fantastic! And the Chicken Sunday Roast as well! I highly recommend them.
Service was lovely.
A free house and proper unpretentious small back street local, just a 5 minute walk from St Alban's city centre but a world apart from the pubs you will find there. A fine and interesting selection of cask and keg beers (which I expect changes all the time) give this pub an almost micropub feel, although it's in a traditional pub building. A simple food menu - the fish finger sandwich comes highly recommended! Just what I was looking for.
Gorgeous Sunday lunch! The nut roast is the nicest I've ever had in a pub - highly recommend to fellow veggies.
First visit here and was very impressed. Lovely big back garden with loads of tables and chairs, plenty of seating out the front and some at the side of pub. Didn't have any food but it did look good. A few good real ales on and a few pale ales. Staff friendly, will be back
Madge took us off the main road and it felt like we had entered a country village. Lovely pub, beer garden and friendly locals vibe. Found a new brewery as well. Burnt Mill brewey..fine pint in the trendy unfined cloudy variety. ( I prefer clear to soup!) Great find and there are more pubs to find on a future visit to this part of town.
