About This Pub
Oh, what a treat The Garibaldi is – it's one of those pubs that just wraps you up in its history and homely feel the moment you step inside. I love how it captures that classic Victorian era with its nooks, crannies, and a real fire that makes winter visits extra snug, and the staff are just lovely, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after properly. The beers are a highlight too, with a great range of ales that cater to all tastes, and when it comes to food, those Sunday roasts are something special – proper home-cooked grub that's generous and full of flavour, without breaking the bank. On the other hand, it's a bit off the beaten track, so you might need to know your way around St Albans to find it easily, and the smaller interior can get a bit packed on busier days, which isn't ideal if you're in a larger group. Still, with the beer garden offering a brilliant outdoor option and the place being so welcoming to families and dogs, it's well worth seeking out for a laid-back pint or a hearty meal – I'd say it's a solid choice for anyone wanting that authentic pub experience without the fuss.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The Victorian charm is absolutely spot on, with cosy nooks, a roaring real fire, and that authentic old-school vibe that makes you feel right at home.
-
The staff are so friendly and welcoming, offering that good old-fashioned service that's becoming a rare treat these days.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of beers and ales, including guest options and Fuller's favourites, making it a haven for anyone who loves a proper pint.
-
The food is brilliant value, especially the hearty Sunday roasts with generous portions – things like the steak ale pie are real crowd-pleasers.
-
The beer garden is a lovely spot for al fresco drinks, whether it's sunny or they've got it covered for chillier days, and it's great for families and even dogs.
Cons
-
It's a bit tucked away in the back streets, so if you're not familiar with St Albans, you might have a wander before you find it.
-
The inside space is quite compact, which can make it feel a tad cosy when it's busy, so it might not suit everyone if you're after more room to spread out.
-
The operating hours seem a little variable, particularly on Sundays, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any disappointment when planning a visit.

Really enjoy coming to this place. Relaxing atmosphere and credit to the good ole style bar staff that are friendly and welcoming. Nice outside beer garden which is a suntrap and I have to say...the food is value for money! Try the steak ale pie ....woah..very filling!
We were visiting St. Albans, and It's not very often you come across an old style back street pub, but we were delighted to stumble across The Garibaldi.
A wide selection of beers, we settled for a pint of London Pride. A wonderful atmosphere with the locals, we will definitely come back.
A local gem in St. Albans. Very decently priced both for food and beverage. Great outdoor garden when the weather allows, and some of the best Sunday roast in the area. This place boasts very generous portions, and all the food tasted amazing. Would absolutely recommend you go for dessert and try the sticky toffee pudding.
The two ladies running it were also great! Would highly recommend if you’re in the area.
A hidden gem. This pub is a stones throw from St Alban's Town centre and provides a very friendly atmosphere, and a decent selection of beers and ciders on draft.
I phoned ahead to book in for Sunday lunch and Caroline was kind enough to cater for this. The food, service and staff were excellent.
Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of my sunday lunch. However I will be returning again to update with pictures! It was reasonably priced for the area and was of great quality and quantity.
A really attractive-looking, red brick Victorian pub, tucked away down a side street, a few minutes walk from the City centre. It’s pretty compact inside, with a large central bar taking up most of the room. A lovely little beer garden to the side is a great addition for the summer.
Offering the full range of Fuller’s ales (I love well-kept ESB and Pride) and a good range of other beverages. Had the Sunday roast here a couple of times and it was really good.
Definitely a proper locals’ pub but very friendly to first time or occasional visitors.
