About This Pub

Ah, The Farmer's Boy – what a gem in St Albans! From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this fantastic array of craft beers and real ales that really hit the spot, whether you're into American brews or local favourites. I love how they've embraced live music in the beer garden, especially on a Saturday afternoon with bands playing and fresh pizzas on offer – it's like a little party in the back. The staff sound genuinely helpful and create that warm, pub-like charm that makes you want to linger. On the flip side, it does have that classic, old-school feel, which is brilliant if you're after a traditional spot, but it might not wow everyone looking for something more contemporary. Plus, with the bar being on the smaller side, it can get a bit packed when things are hopping, and without any fresh reviews lately, I'm curious if it's still firing on all cylinders. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a relaxed pint or a fun night out – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the minor niggles.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • They've got an absolutely brilliant selection of craft beers and real ales – perfect for anyone who loves exploring new brews.
  • The atmosphere is spot on, with live music in the beer garden and events like beer festivals that really get things buzzing.
  • Friendly staff and top-notch service make you feel right at home, plus they've got freshly baked pizzas and a cosy vibe to enjoy.
  • It's open late on weekends and shows sports on the TVs, so there's always something going on to suit different tastes.
Cons
  • The pub has a very traditional feel, which might come across as a bit old-fashioned for those after something more modern.
  • Space inside can be a tad snug, especially when it's busy, so you might struggle to find a seat during peak times.
  • With no recent reviews in the last six months, it's hard to say if everything's still as good as it was – things can change quickly.

Good selection of American craft beer and Saturday afternoon live band at the garden. Freshly baked pizza in the garden too.

First ever visit here and was very impressed. Very good choice of drinks with some real ales and craft beers. It was a Saturday afternoon and there was a fab live band on. They had a bloke making fresh pizza's. Inside they had rugby on one tv and football on the other, there was something for everyone. Staff friendly and helpful.

They have totally embraced the craft beer scene. They have loads. The pub is very well 'lived in' but it is a pub that sells great beer & does live music stuff in the garden. They also have lots of craft cans in the fridge. The beer festivals they have are excellent, lots of really good beers - Polly's & Azvex to name a few. A great pub 🙂🍺

This must be the most traditional of traditional pubs in St Albans. The relatively small bar feels like you’re in your Grandma’s best front parlour, although I don’t remember my Nan having a well-stocked bar! A Mecca for craft ale fans, and open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, results in it getting very busy. I didn’t get to see the garden and haven’t attended the Saturday live music events; hopefully next time.
