About This Pub

Ah, Whelan's – it's one of those pubs that really captures the spirit of an Irish spot right here in Uxbridge, just a short stroll from the tube. I've got to say, it's a favourite for a good night out; the live music and massive screens for footie make it feel alive and exciting, especially when you're sinking a pint of their own ale or exploring that huge gin selection. The beer gardens are a bonus on nicer days, and with late openings, it's ideal if you fancy dancing the night away. But let's keep it real, like any place, it's not perfect. A few reviews mentioned some staff interactions going south, which could put a damper on things, and the food, while okay, isn't always spot-on – think chewy roasts that might leave you wanting more. Still, overall, it's got that welcoming charm that draws in a real mix of people, and with a solid 4.0 rating, most seem to have a whale of a time. If you're heading out for drinks and a laugh, I'd give it a go, but maybe keep expectations in check for the grub.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing, with live music and big screens showing all the Premier League and Championship footie – perfect for catching a match with your mates.
  • They've got an incredible selection of gins and ales, including their own Whelan's Ale, which is a real treat if you're after something special.
  • Two beer gardens make it a lovely spot for a sunny afternoon pint, and there's even an area for private hire if you're planning a get-together.
  • Late-night openings on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays mean you can keep the party going until the wee hours, with music to boot.
  • The staff are generally friendly and welcoming, creating that warm Irish pub vibe that makes you feel right at home.
Cons
  • There have been a few awkward moments with staff interactions, like one review mentioning getting barred after a tipsy chat – might be worth keeping things light to avoid any hassle.
  • Food can be hit or miss; some folks found the Sunday roast meat a bit chewy and missed out on extras like stuffing, so it might not be the best choice for a hearty meal.
  • A couple of reviews hinted at issues like discrimination, which is a shame and could make some feel uncomfortable – it's not widespread, but it's something to note.
  • While the welcome is warm, the mix of crowds might not suit everyone, especially if you're after a quiet night, as it can get lively with students and office workers.

Don’t flirt with the barmaid called Chloe You will get barred, I was a little tipsy and may have said some things but she should have not been so suggestive. Sorry Tony perhaps a more mature barmaid to be added to the team? P.p.s. I get a lot of discrimination because I look like a Pakistani.

We came here for Sunday lunch. We ordered lamb and beef roast dinners. We found the meat to be on the chewy side but overall the vegetables and other sides were fine. A bit disappointed that stuffing didn't come with the roast. The service we received was fine, the lady behind the bar was pleasant and courteous. The atmosphere in the venue was pleasant and not too loud.

Excellent place to have drinks on the weekend. Ordered a few beers and some shots of Guinness. The ambience is very nice. And the overall crowd was decent. Ordered some fries as well which were nice and crispy. Will definitely be visiting many more times to come. The service was really quick and did not have to wait hours for orders.
