About This Pub

Ah, the Wharf Tavern in Stalybridge – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a cosy spot for catching up with mates over a pint. I love how the staff go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome; they've got that genuine warmth that turns a simple visit into a proper good time. The real ales are spot on, well-poured and at a fair price, and if you're planning an event, the function room is brilliant for it – think family dos or even something fun like a kids' gathering, as one person shared. It's got that timeless traditional charm that's hard to beat. But, on the downside, being cash only can throw a spanner in the works if you're not prepared, and the heating might leave you feeling a bit sticky on warmer evenings. The décor's showing its age a little, and the toilets could really do with some updating to match the rest. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out, especially if you fancy that authentic pub feel, though it'd be even better with a few tweaks here and there.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in
  • They've got a great selection of real ales that are well-kept and reasonably priced – perfect for a proper pint
  • The function room is a real gem for events, whether it's a family gathering or something like a kids' presentation
  • It's got that classic, old-fashioned pub vibe that's charming and nostalgic
  • The place is kept clean, which adds to the comfortable atmosphere
Cons
  • It's cash only, which can be a bit of a nuisance if you're out and about without any notes
  • The heating can get too warm, making it uncomfortable on busier days
  • The décor feels a tad tired and could do with a freshen-up to keep things lively
  • The toilets aren't quite up to standard, which might put a dampener on the experience

Great pub. We visited on Friday. It was Friendly! Clean. Lovely local barmaid. She even rang the last orders bell for me :) We went next door for fish and chips and got to eat in inside too.

We attended a family gathering including people of all ages, it was cash only, and younger ones were having to leave and find a cash point as the one across the street was out of order. The heating was on and it was really too warm. The staff were really nice though.

We had a kids football presentation in the function room, the staff on the bar were amazing they went above and beyond for us. Very much appreciated 😊

This is a nice traditional pub with a function room/dance floor. Try had a DJ when I went on Saturday night. They have three hand pumps serving real ale, which I found to be kept well and reasonable priced. The staff are friendly enough. The décor is quite tired and the toilets could do with a deep clean.
