About This Pub

You know, when I popped into The Crafty Pint in Stalybridge, it really hit the spot for a proper pub experience – none of that flashy nonsense, just good old-fashioned charm. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a friendly natter, and they've got this brilliant rotating selection of ales that keeps things interesting week after week. It's clean as a whistle, comfy to settle into, and the location's spot on, with lovely views of the local hills and canal if you fancy stepping outside. Prices are fair too, so you won't feel short-changed. On the downside, it's a bit on the snug side, so if you're with a larger group, you might end up elbow-to-elbow, and there's not much in the way of food beyond a bag of crisps or some pork scratchings. Plus, with it only open five days a week and wrapping up early, it might not suit everyone for a spontaneous evening. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after a relaxed pint and a bit of that classic pub magic, but it's worth checking the hours first to avoid disappointment.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Friendly and helpful staff who make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • A fantastic selection of real ales that change up every week, making each visit feel fresh and exciting.
  • That authentic pub atmosphere with no blaring TVs or loud music – just a cosy spot for a proper chat.
  • It's spotlessly clean and well-maintained, with a great location in the town centre offering views of the hills and canal.
  • Reasonable prices on drinks, so you can enjoy a pint without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • It's on the small side, only holding about 30 folks, so it can get a bit packed on busier nights.
  • Food options are limited to just crisps and pork scratchings – not ideal if you're after a proper meal.
  • Opening hours aren't the most flexible, with the place only open five days a week and typically shutting up shop by 10 PM.
  • There haven't been many recent reviews, which might mean it's a quieter spot these days, or perhaps it's flown under the radar.

They say you can you choose your friends but not your family. It’s a shame you can’t chose your customers. This place looks great from the outside, very inviting. You enter the ‘pub’ and it doesn’t disappoint. Excellent, friendly service, a great selection of beers and the prices are something to smile about. So why the low score? Simply the clientele. I walked through the door to be greeted by someone using the ‘F’ word. I’m no prude, I swear, but I use it in context and at a volume that won’t offend others. The swearing continued, I got the ‘F’ word, the ‘C’ word and everything else, each sentence that dribbled out of his mouth like uncontrollable diarrhoea provided offence. All while discussing Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Home Alone. The main culprit, we’ll call ‘Dave’ (as that’s probably his name), had a mouth like a sewer. The final insult was as I left left he managed to extract the Micheal out of me as I walked out of the door! Happy days indeed….. Would I come here again? Absolutely as long as ‘Dave’ baked his head in an oven. If ‘Dave’ continues to be allowed to rule the place then I’d suggest you avoid it at all costs. No amount of great service or good quality ale will compensate for the atmosphere one individual can create. My advice to the owner is, don’t let your customer’s dictate the type of place you run. The customer is not always right. ‘Dave’ you’re a t*%t.

ridiculously good small bar. it's got a real 'pub' feel, no tv screens, and quiet music. it probably only holds 30 people or so. no food, but crisps and some great pork scratching available. staff were friendly and helpful. 3 beers on tap (Salopian 'hop twister', Lancaster IPA, Kirkstall 'Dissolution') were all kept perfectly, so the cellar staff clearly know their stuff. small selection of bottles and no cider that I noticed. the quality of the Salopian, however, meant I didn't really care about anything else! well worth a visit, and I'm very glad it's reopened after all the problems of this last 18 months.

Probably the best pub in Stalybridge. Bit of character. Great selections of beers. Friendly staff. Clean and safe from a covid perspective. Also well located in the town centre. Got a view of the local hills and canal if you're sitting outside. Highly recommended.
