About This Pub
Ah, Stalybridge Buffet Bar – what a gem it is, isn't it? I've got to say, if you're into pubs with character, this one's a winner. It's right there on Platform 4 at the station, so it's dead handy if you're hopping on or off a train, and you can dive into an extensive range of beers that really hits the spot. The historic decor, full of railway memorabilia, gives it such a warm, nostalgic feel that makes you want to linger a bit longer, even if you're just passing through. Prices are nice and reasonable too, so you won't break the bank for a good pint. On the flip side, though, the food's a bit on the simple side – think tasty pies and snacks, but nothing too fancy, so it might not satisfy if you're after a full meal. Still, based on all the glowing reviews, it's clear this place knows how to keep things cheerful and welcoming, making it a top pick for anyone wanting a proper pub experience without the fuss. All in all, I'd recommend giving it a go; it's one of those spots that leaves you with a smile.
Pros and Cons
Pros

The beer selection is absolutely brilliant, with a wide range of real ales, Belgian beers, and more – perfect for any beer enthusiast looking to try something new.
-
It's got that charming, historic vibe with authentic decor and railway memorabilia, making it feel like a real step back in time while you're waiting for your train.
-
Super convenient if you're travelling by rail; you can just pop in for a quick pint without worrying about driving, and it's easy to reach.
-
The atmosphere is just right for relaxing and having a good time, whether you're on your own or with mates, and it's open every day with affordable prices.
-
From what I've seen, folks rave about it – with a solid 4.6 rating, it's clear it's a favourite for a laid-back drink and maybe a pie.
Cons
-
Food choices are pretty limited, mostly just pies, pork scratchings, and crisps, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to look elsewhere.
-
Being right on the platform, it can feel a bit rushed if you're catching a train, and space might be tight during busy times.

It is a great place to go and an extensive range of beers. It's definitely worth a visit.
Madge making her first visit in 6 years. Been a few times, usually as part if the Manchester to Leeds Rail Ale Trail. On this dark November evening we were changing trains and I had twenty minutes to kill. Rushed in for a quick pint. Found a new brewery to tick off, Courier Brewing. A lovely bar to visit. Famous for the beer selection. Up to nine real ales. A CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular.
Awesome place to chill, & enjoy a drink, and a pie. Great real ales, Belgian beers, wines, & spirits. Easy to get to by train, so no need to worry about driving home after a good time.
Historic buffet bar located on the railway station platform. Authentically fitted out. Several ales on. I can’t remember visiting a better pub at a working station. Highly recommended.. 🍻 🚂
A lovely hidden gem, tucked away on platform 4 of Stalybridge station. Excellent and extensive beer selection.
Food limited to (very good) pork pies, pork scratchings and crisps.
Great decor with loads of railway memorabilia.
