About This Pub

Ah, the Wharf Tavern – it's one of those classic spots that really warms you up on a chilly evening or brightens a sunny afternoon by the canal. From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the team behind the bar are absolute stars, always greeting you with a smile and making sure you're settled in nicely, just like chatting with pals over a round. The food's generally a winner too; think hearty curries and meals that hit the spot without emptying your wallet, and it's brilliant that they welcome dogs, so it's perfect for a laid-back outing. On the downside, though, it's not all smooth sailing – some folks have mentioned waiting ages for their grub, even when it's not busy, and there have been grumbles about dishes coming out overcooked or portions not quite living up to the price. Still, with a solid overall feel from the crowd, it's worth popping in for a drink and a bite, as long as you keep expectations in check and maybe plan for a bit of patience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
  • They serve some cracking food options, like that delicious curry for under £19, which is a real bargain.
  • It's a relaxed and cosy spot, not too crowded, with a great atmosphere for a casual evening out.
  • Dog-friendly vibes mean you can bring your furry companion along for the fun.
  • The location by the canal is spot on, especially on a sunny day when it adds a lovely touch to your pint.
Cons
  • Wait times can drag on a bit, even when the place is quiet, which might put a dampener on your night.
  • Food quality can be hit or miss – like that overcooked steak that left one person disappointed.
  • Portions feel a tad small for what you're paying, especially when you're after a hearty pub grub fix.

Visited on a week night when the pub was very quiet, however I didn't have a great experience unfortunately. I ordered a steak and whilst I wasn't expecting much I certainly wasn't impressed when I had to chase my meal after 45 minutes only for it to come out very overcooked. At this point I wasn't sending the food back in the fear of having to wait again for my meal so I must add that I didn't give them the opportunity to fix it. We sat outside at first for some drinks and what has the potential to be a nice beer garden is unfortunately not very well kept, full of dog poo, litter and a random Tik-Tok bouncy castle.

I had the pleasure of visiting The Wharf Tavern recently, and I have to say, the experience was absolutely top-notch. From the moment I walked in, Konrad, the barman, made me feel incredibly welcome. His professionalism, friendly demeanor, and attention to detail were second to none. He poured a perfect pint of Guinness—smooth, creamy, and at the ideal temperature—exactly as it should be. As for the food, Jason, the chef, truly outdid himself. I ordered the Cajun chicken burger, and it was hands down one of the best I’ve had. The chicken was perfectly cooked—juicy, tender, and packed with bold Cajun spices that gave it just the right amount of heat. The bun was fresh, the toppings were well-balanced, and every bite was a delight. Paired with the Guinness, it was an unforgettable meal. The combination of exceptional service from Konrad and Jason’s skill in the kitchen made for a fantastic experience. Whether you’re looking for a great meal, a perfectly poured pint, or just a welcoming atmosphere, The Wharf Tavern delivers in every way. I’ll definitely be back!

Just had the nicest curry I have had in a while. And only £18.99 including a neck oil which is £7 itself! Will definitely be returning. Thanks Ryan :)

Food is always fab, service is wonderful and friendly, it's not overcrowded, but a good atmosphere, dog friendly too! But all in all, we enjoy coming here for an evening meal and a drink, great little place 🥰🥂🤩

Nice and warm place that gets busy and is situated by the canal, so it’s nicer on warm sunny days. Portions were a bit too small for my liking given the price. Yes they were presented nicely but I’m in a pub and just want a messy bowl of chips and more onions rings than I know what to do with. That being said, the staff are attentive and food came quick. They also show sports.
