About This Pub

Oh, the Waterside is one of those classic Greene King spots in Rugby that feels like a proper local haunt, especially with its prime location by the canal – you can't beat sitting in the beer garden on a sunny day. I have to say, the carvery really shines; it's packed with flavour from those 14-hour slow-cooked meats and fresh veg, and it's a bargain for what you get. It's spot on for families, with plenty of space and dog-friendly vibes, plus the staff often add a fun touch that makes the visit memorable. On the flip side, though, it's a shame about the toilets – they're not up to scratch, with reports of them being filthy or broken, and there are occasional hygiene issues like undercooked sides or staff not following best practices. Overall, with a solid 3.9 rating, it's worth checking out if you're after a hearty meal and a relaxed vibe, but maybe keep an eye on the details to avoid any disappointments.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The carvery is a real highlight – fresh, slow-cooked meats and tasty sides make for a satisfying meal, especially on a Sunday.
  • It's got a lovely spot by the canal with a beer garden, perfect for relaxing with family or even bringing the dog along.
  • The atmosphere is welcoming and family-friendly, with facilities like WiFi and a car park making it easy to pop in.
  • Prices are reasonable, so you can enjoy a good feed without breaking the bank, and the staff can be quite entertaining.
Cons
  • The toilets are often in a poor state – dirty, with issues like blockages or broken fixtures, which can really spoil the experience.
  • Hygiene slips sometimes, like staff not tying back long hair, and undercooked veg has been a gripe in a few visits.
  • It can get busy, especially for the carvery, and that might mean things don't always run as smoothly as you'd like.

Carvery was very nice last night but your toilets are disgraceful. One toilet blocked, one with broken handle and last one with the long window has broken blinds so you are visible to the outside. Toilet paper all over the very filthy floors. You need to go in them and actually see what should be rectified. It’s made me doubt the cleanliness of the kitchen now!!

The food was reasonable. The sprouts were undercooked and some of the parsnips were too. The meat and other veg were good. My main gripe is serving staff with long hair not having it tied back. This is totally un hygienic and a disgrace. Working in the hospitality trade myself I know that this is totally unacceptable.

Great place for a Sunday roast. Three types of meat are included in the meal. Very busy on Sundays. Carvery is available every day.

During our visit, we opted for the carvery, and it was a choice well made. From the moment we entered, the ambiance was inviting. The pub is set in a scenic location by the water, which adds to its charm. The interior is cozy, with a blend of rustic and modern decor that creates a comfortable atmosphere suitable for both family meals and casual gatherings. The carvery itself was a highlight. The selection of meats was impressive, with succulent cuts of turkey, beef, and gammon available. Each was cooked to perfection—juicy, tender, and full of flavour. The staff at the carving station were friendly and generous with the portions, making sure we had our fill of whichever meats we preferred. The variety of sides was equally pleasing. There were plenty of freshly cooked vegetables, including crispy roast potatoes, fluffy mashed potatoes, and a selection of seasonal vegetables. The Yorkshire puddings were large and airy, providing the perfect vessel for the rich, savoury gravy that was available in abundance. For those who enjoy their sauces, there were plenty of options. The service throughout our visit was attentive and efficient, with the staff ensuring that our needs were met without being intrusive. Despite being busy, the pub maintained a relaxed pace, allowing us to enjoy our meal at leisure. In summary, The Waterside - Pub & Carvery offers an excellent carvery experience with a good balance of quality, variety, and value. It’s a great spot for anyone looking to enjoy a traditional meal in a welcoming setting.
