About This Pub

Ah, Hillmorton Manor – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper British hideaway, tucked away in the leafy outskirts of Rugby. I have to say, the carvery really stole the show for me; the meats are spot on, with generous portions and everything cooked just right, as a few folks have raved about in their reviews. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, which adds such a nice touch to the whole experience, especially if you're popping in for a relaxed meal or even a stay in their affordable rooms. It's brilliantly located for nipping off to nearby sights like Warwick Castle or Stratford, and that free parking is a bonus if you're driving. On the flip side, though, the drinks menu could do with a bit more variety – it's a shame there's not more on offer for beer lovers, as one person mentioned. Plus, with the restaurant only open on Sundays and potential closures for things like elections, it might not be the most reliable spot for spontaneous visits. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after good value and a friendly vibe, but do check ahead to avoid any surprises – I'd still recommend giving it a go for that carvery alone!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The carvery is an absolute delight, with meats and veggies cooked to perfection – it's a real treat for a Sunday lunch.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's set in a charming 18th Century building with lovely surroundings, perfect for a relaxing visit near attractions like Rugby School and Stratford-upon-Avon.
  • Free private parking and affordable, comfortable rooms with all the essentials like en-suite bathrooms and free Wi-Fi, ideal for a quick stopover.
Cons
  • The drink selection is a bit disappointing, with more options for cola than for lagers, bitters, ciders, or stouts – not much for ale enthusiasts.
  • Operating hours can be quite limited, like the restaurant only being open on Sundays from 12 to 5pm, which might catch you out if you're planning a midweek visit.
  • Occasionally, services like the kitchen might be unavailable due to external events, which could spoil plans for a proper meal.

The only bar I've ever been in where there's more choices of cola than there are of lager, bitter, cider and stout combined - and not a single bottled ale either.

We went for the first time today for the carvery, and it was absolutely delightful. The meats and the vegetables all cooked to perfection, and the staff were so helpful.

We went for the Sunday Carvery, we found the staff friendly and helpful, on the carvery there was pork, gammon, Beef and Turkey you can choose 2 from the four, between us we had all four meats and they were all delicious, if you have the pork you get some crackling, the Yorkshire puddings were huge and you get a pig in blanket and a ball of stuffing in the Yorkshire, there was a good selection of veg with roast and mashed potatoes and as much or as little gravy as you like. There's a good selection of desserts to choose from but to be honest we were all full from the carvery so didn't order any. IGNORE their website as it's not up to date there's no two course or three course option it's a carvery for £16 per person and the desserts range from £5-£7.00. I would recommend The Hillmorton Manor as the food is of very good quality and I believe it's very good value for money with good service.

We booked here as a stop over in the way to the British GP 24. We had a long trip from home and were starving when we got there, looking forward to some proper pub grub. But as it was 4/7 - election day, the hotel was used as a polling station, so the kitchen was closed... the service we received was warm and understanding. They offered that we could bring any meal in or order takeaway to be delivered to the bar, and they'd supply the plates, cutlery, and condiments ! Chippy tea it was, and we thoroughly enjoyed it!
