About This Pub
Ah, The Stag and Pheasant – it's one of those charming village pubs that just feels like a second home, you know? From the moment you step in, the staff are all smiles and make you feel like you're catching up with friends, which really sets the tone for a relaxed evening. They've nailed the drinks selection, with a solid range of beers and spirits that pair perfectly with the cosy, old-school atmosphere, and if you're lucky enough to visit on a Sunday, the roasts are something special – loads of options, including veggie choices, and that cauliflower cheese is just heavenly, as if they've put a bit of magic in the kitchen. The beer garden's a lovely spot too, especially if you're bringing the dog along for a wander. On the downside, it's a shame they only serve food on Sundays, so if you're in the mood for a pub grub fix during the week, you might find yourself a bit stuck and needing to explore other options. Plus, with things seeming a tad quiet lately, it might not be the buzzing spot it once was, but for a straightforward, affordable pint and a chat, it's still a gem that I'd happily recommend to anyone looking for that authentic pub experience without any fuss.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly welcoming and make you feel right at home, just like chatting with old mates.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers, wines, and spirits, perfect for settling in with a good pint in a relaxed vibe.
-
It's wonderfully dog-friendly, with outdoor seating in the beer garden, ideal for popping in with your four-legged friend on a sunny day.
-
The Sunday roasts are an absolute treat – think tender meat, heaps of veg, and that divine cauliflower cheese that everyone's raving about.
-
It's a proper traditional village pub with a cosy atmosphere, great for unwinding after a long day or enjoying some live entertainment.
Cons
-
Food options are limited to Sundays only, so if you're after a meal mid-week, you might end up disappointed and have to head elsewhere.
-
There haven't been many recent buzz around the place, which could mean it's a bit quieter than expected these days.
-
Parking can be a tad tricky, as it's roadside and you'll need to be mindful not to block the neighbours' driveways.

We had a lovely experience at this restaurant. The staff were lovely and accommodating, and we felt at home. The roast was awesome! The meat was great, and there was a great variety of vegetables. The cauliflower cheese was heavenly, but we will need a bowl of it next time. Definitely 10/10. We felt like we had known the owners for years!! Now we have gone for a nap to sleep it off! ❤️🤣 #greatfood #friendlystaff #cozyatmosphere
We are going to try the breakfasts the next time we visit! #cantwait
Nice Public House in Hillmorton comfortable place good range of drinks. Large Screens plenty of space for seating. Very accommodating staff, not my local but would certainly visit again with no hesitation
Passing through on our boat & fancied a couple of drinks after a long day. Chose the Stag and Pheasant and we're glad we did - lovely old-style pub atmosphere with a welcome from the barmaid and made to feel at home by the locals. No food but who cares? A welcoming drinking pub. Perfect!
Dog friendly pub with brilliant landlords well worth a walk up from the canal
So nice to have good people running the pub now
A cosy local dog friendly pub with a lovely fire and welcoming bar staff. A good choice of ales and beers and only a short walk from the Canal. Enjoyed a nice pint here!
