About This Pub

Ah, Waters Green Tavern – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, the beers are spot on, with a cracking selection of real ales that are kept superbly well, making it a top spot if you're into your brews. I love how it's got that authentic, independent vibe, and the beer garden sounds like a winner for when the weather's playing nice. Plus, being so close to the train station means it's dead handy for a quick stop-off after travels, and the prices won't break the bank, especially with that little lunchtime menu for a light nibble. On the flip side, their website's a bit dodgy with errors, so you might have to just turn up and see for yourself, and it can be a tad quiet during off-peak hours, which might not be everyone's cup of tea if you're after a buzzing atmosphere. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back pint with mates, offering that genuine pub charm without the frills, but with room for a few improvements here and there.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic range of real ales and beers, perfect for those who love a good pint
  • Lovely beer garden that's great for enjoying a drink outdoors on a sunny day
  • Warm and welcoming atmosphere with a real open fire that adds to the cosy vibe
  • Super convenient location right near the train station, making it easy to pop in
  • Affordable prices and a small lunchtime menu for a quick, budget-friendly bite
Cons
  • The website's a bit of a let-down with errors, so it's not the easiest to check details online
  • It can be quiet at times, especially early in the day, which might not suit those after a lively crowd
  • Food options are limited to just a small menu, so it's not the place for a full meal

Excellent ales that are superbly kept. A traditional real independent free house with a range of beers. Does a small lunchtime menu at cheap prices. Close to train station and Travelodge.

Called in for a quick pint on my first visit to Macclesfield. Was early, so quiet, with only one local. Looks like they have a varied selection of beers. I opted for a German lager. Nice friendly publican who said he has been there for 40 years. Close to train station.

A lovely pub with a good selection of hand pumps ales, wines, quality spirits, the owner has been spending money on the bar area (see pic) and re upholstering the seating, theres a real open fire and a reasonable amount of people coming and going, young and old, the toilets have been renovated a few years ago and still look good and they are clean (unlike many other pubs) there a pool table and darts board, it is a rarity for Macclesfield which seems to be losing pubs and gaining bars with shouty people and eye watering prices, yet the Tavern is reasonably priced.

Great destination for real ale lovers. Opposite the train station. Has proper boozer vibe. First stop on day out in Macclesfield. New brewery for me, Town House brewery from Stoke. Lovely pint of Olicana. In 2021 and 2022 Good Beer Guide. Good start to the day.
