About This Pub

Ah, The Earl of Mercia – what a gem of a pub tucked away in Macclesfield. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this brilliant selection of beers that are properly looked after, and folks are raving about how refreshing they are, especially if you're a fan of well-kept ales. The staff sound like a right friendly bunch, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels comfortable, which really adds to the homely vibe. Plus, with things like pool and darts on offer, it's ideal for a laid-back evening with friends, and the music keeps things lively without being overwhelming. Prices are fair too, so you won't feel short-changed. On the downside, it's a shame about that one instance where a beer wasn't quite right – it's not a common complaint, but it does happen, so maybe give it a quick taste before settling in. All in all, it's a solid spot for a good night out, with more highs than lows, and I'd say it's worth popping in if you're in the area for a proper pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot on – a fantastic variety that's well-kept and hits the mark every time.
  • The staff are dead friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • There's a great atmosphere with fun extras like a pool table and darts upstairs, perfect for a casual get-together.
  • Prices are reasonable, so you can enjoy a few pints without worrying about the wallet.
  • It's got a relaxed vibe with good music playing, making it a lovely spot for unwinding with mates.
Cons
  • Occasionally, a beer might not be up to scratch, like one review mentioned it was off, which is a bit disappointing.
  • The bar is on the small side, so it could feel a tad cramped if it gets busy.

What a lovely place and great atmosphere.. A nice selection of of drinks for everyone. The landlord Tom is very friendly and very pleasant, the rest rest of his bar staff Damien and Sophie and very approachable, friendly and talkative. For people who like sports games there is a dart board and pool table upstairs.. Then there is the beer garden, lovely little sun trap.. really enjoy every time I go there.. very highly recommended
