About This Pub

Ah, the Nags Head – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its vibrant energy and that genuine sense of community, doesn't it? From what I've gathered, it's a fantastic spot for enjoying live bands playing everything from 80s covers to rock tributes, which really livens up the weekends and gives it a fun, buzzing feel. The staff and regulars seem to go out of their way to make newcomers feel welcome, and there's always a good selection of drinks on tap, perfect for settling in with mates to watch the match or have a game of pool in the beer garden. On the flip side, it's a shame that not every visit is smooth sailing; a few have mentioned off moments with service that can feel a bit pushy or less than cheerful, which might leave you heading elsewhere if you're not in the mood for it. Overall, I'd say it's well worth a try for anyone in Macclesfield looking for a lively night out, but keep in mind it shines brightest when the music's playing and the crowd's in good spirits – just like any good pub, it's all about timing and catching it on a good day.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in, just like chatting with old mates.
  • They've got a cracking lineup of live music every weekend, with bands covering everything from classic rock to indie tunes, which really gets the crowd going.
  • Plenty of options for a good pint, including some top-notch cask ales, and it's brilliant for catching the footy on their multiple screens.
  • The outdoor beer garden is a lovely spot for a summer evening, and they've got fun extras like pool tables and darts to keep things entertaining.
  • It's family-friendly during the week, which is great if you're popping in with the little ones before it turns into a lively music spot at weekends.
Cons
  • Service can be hit or miss; some folks have mentioned feeling pressured at the bar or dealing with a bit of attitude, which can put a dampener on the evening.
  • It might feel a tad overwhelming on quieter nights if the vibe isn't quite right, as one experience suggested it didn't live up to expectations.
  • The live events could get busy, so if you're after a peaceful pint, it might not always be the best choice, especially on gig nights.

What a lovely, friendly pub. From the landlord and his wife to the other customers we were made to feel welcome. Great outdoor area too. This relaxed us after a stressful flight from Spain and prepared us for the next day. I would highly reommend a visit.

Friendly atmosphere, good cask ales and great to see regular live music. Good to watch the footy and there's some brilliant music and United pics on the walls.

me and a friend went here yesterday and as soon as we walked in there was pressure to purchase drinks. the lady at the bar had attitude which ruined the atmosphere and caused us to leave within 2 minutes of being there. seeing as it was a quiet night there you would have thought you’d want the few customers who do turn up to stay and buy drinks. very disappointed and would not recommend
