About This Pub

Ah, the Waterloo Inn – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles on a chilly evening in Burton-on-Trent. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, the staff are absolute gems; they're chatty, personable, and go out of their way to make sure everyone feels welcome, whether you're there for a quick pint or a full evening. The real ales are a standout – all locally brewed with real care and quality, and it's brilliant how they're supporting nearby micro breweries. The decor's got that stylish edge too, clearly put together by someone with a good eye, making it feel fresh and not your average boozer. On the flip side, though, a couple of reviews mentioned a whiff from the toilets seeping into the bar, which isn't ideal and might put you off if you're sensitive to that sort of thing. Also, while the food sounds amazing – think tasty options from a food van like Mrs Patel's – some said the portions could do with being a bit heartier. All in all, with such high praise and a strong community feel, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out, but it's worth keeping those minor niggles in mind for a balanced visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of locally brewed real ales that really hit the spot – perfect for ale enthusiasts.
  • The decor is stylish and well-designed, giving the place a fresh and inviting atmosphere.
  • It's a proper community hub that supports local businesses and micro breweries, which adds to the warm, local feel.
  • Being dog-friendly means you can pop in with your furry friend, which is a lovely touch for us animal lovers.
Cons
  • There was a mention of a bit of a toilet smell in the bar area, which could spoil the experience on occasion.
  • Some folks noted that the food portions aren't the biggest, even if the grub itself is tasty.

Brilliant place, stylish and friendly and all the staff chatted and smiled. The decor is obviously designed by someone who knows their stuff. This place used to be good and now it is an excellent place to get a drink.

Good for a few beers after work but could smell the toilets in the bar room.

I really can't speak highly enough about this pub. The man who served us ( I think he may have been the landlord) was fantastic. Personable, funny and just made us feel welcome. The food was simply amazing, wish the portions had been bigger, but maybe that's cause of how good it was. I really can't wait to go back there. Although I do wish they would do a Jägerbomb.
