About This Pub

Ah, the Waggon & Horses – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a cosy British village spot, isn't it? From what I've gathered, the food is a standout, with rave reviews for dishes like the ricotta cannelloni and sticky toffee pudding that folks are calling 'life-changing', and it's all served up in a charming setting with a lovely garden and a roaring log fire for those chilly evenings. The team there seems genuinely welcoming, handling groups and last-minute bookings with a smile, which makes it ideal for a relaxed get-together or even a special occasion like a family christening. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; there have been a few grumbles about cold meals or mix-ups with payments that can leave you feeling a tad frustrated, and some dishes might just be average rather than exceptional. Overall, though, with its solid 4.6 rating and high praise for the drinks and atmosphere, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think creamy liver with bacon or that life-changing sticky toffee pudding; it's all about hearty, traditional pub grub that hits the mark.
  • The staff are so welcoming and friendly, always ready with a smile and quick service, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got that classic British pub charm with a beautiful garden overlooking the village pond and a cosy log fire – perfect for a relaxing chat with mates over a pint of real ale.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, from real ales and lagers to wines, and it's a brilliant spot for watching live sports or gathering with friends and family.
Cons
  • Occasionally, the food might not come out quite right, like cold chips that leave you a bit disappointed and without much of an apology from the team.
  • There can be hiccups with bookings or payments, such as not finding your reservation or accidentally double-charging, which puts a damper on things.
  • It might not always live up to expectations for everyone, with some dishes being just okay rather than outstanding, so it's worth keeping that in mind.

Went to this pub on Wednesday they couldn’t find our booking. They managed to give us a table. We were a group of 3 with 2 meals the chips were cold so couldn’t eat them no apologies from the staff. Then on paying our bill they took twice on the payment card for one of our party. They are waiting reimbursement for this.

Here on a study abroad program and they accommodated 14 of us for dinner and they had the most amazing food selections! I had the ricotta cannelloni special and it was so delicious and came out fairly quickly. The sticky toffee pudding changed my life! Thank you to Michelle, Molly, and Dylan for their amazing service

Wonderful service! Emailed and booked a table less than 24hrs before. Travelling down from the north so couldn't give an exact time. Not a problem. We were greeted with such a friendly welcome. Quickly served. The pub was very busy, still had a great atmosphere. Delicious food, good portion size and a reasonable price. Plenty of choice on the special board. Lovely beer garden round the back. Thankyou, 5 stars from us xx

Truly fantastic food! I had the liver with bacon and it was so creamy, truly amazing. My friend had a vegetarian wellington that tasted like pizza and was even better than mine. The only dish that was "just ok" was the cannelloni with spinach that did not impress but did not disappoint either. The service was good as expected.

This is by far my favourite local pub, I even had my daughter christening in there… for me the quintessence of a countryside British pub, quint, cosy and with great Sunday roast!
