About This Pub
Ah, The George and Dragon – what a gem of a pub tucked away in that picturesque village near Hitchin. I've got to say, it's one of those places that just feels like a proper English local, with its cosy dining rooms and that inviting outdoor space for when the weather plays nice. From what I've seen in the reviews, the food steals the show; those Sunday roasts are spot-on, with thick cuts of meat, fresh veg, and all the trimmings that leave you grinning from ear to ear. And it's not just about the grub – the staff are an absolute delight, always on hand with a smile and quick service, whether you're booking a table or just popping in for a pint. They've got a real family vibe too, with events like Easter parties for the kids and live music evenings that add a bit of buzz to the place. Prices are fair, so you won't feel short-changed, and it's a top spot for watching the Six Nations with some free bar snacks on offer. On the flip side, there was that one review where someone had a minor issue with their child's meal, which is a shame as it might not be flawless every time, especially if you're with the family. Plus, being closed on Mondays means it's not always an option for a spontaneous visit. All in all, though, I'd say it's a winner for anyone after a relaxed night out – just give it a go and see for yourself; you might end up making it your regular haunt!

Cons
-
There was a mention in one review of a slight hiccup with a child's meal, so it might not always be spot-on for the little ones.
-
It's closed on Mondays, which could put a dampener on plans if you're hoping for a mid-week pint.

Came for Sunday lunch today. Had booked a table in the bar which was quiet and perfect for my autistic child. On arrival we were greeted and shown to our table, waitress was friendly. Took our drink order and shortly after food order. 1 roast beef, 1 lamb, 1 kids nuggets meal. Unfortunately my son isn’t keen on skin on fries but I should have double checked this on ordering. Food took a while to come out but not excessive. Happy to wait for good food. The young lad who bought the food to the table got the meats the wrong way, gave me the lamb and called it beef and gave my sons dad my beef and said it was the lamb. We double checked with the waitress as I don’t eat lamb so swopped over plates. Again, not a massive problem. Food was good, lots of variety of vegetables. Prefer my beef rare but that’s personal preference. The cauliflower cheese wasn’t very cheesy but was cooked well. Unfortunately nothing on the plate stood out but was still enjoyable. If you’re looking for a standard pub lunch then this place is perfect. Better than the local carvery’s but not stand out/extra special. £64 for 2 roasts. 1 nuggets, 2 pints of coke and a fruit shoot so not badly priced either. I’d definitely come back . My child loved the outdoor play area too.
What can we say about the beautiful G & D and it's amazing staff? Lots!!
We decided to book the pub for our wedding reception and we are so glad we did! From start to finish, we had a fantastic experience. The communication regarding the arrangements was always prompt and knowledgeable. A couple of months before the wedding we went for a taster evening, which was free of charge and we got to try all the foods we were picking from for our wedding buffet. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and they even gave us a glass of prosecco; we were very impressed and happy we had made the right choice of venue.
On the day, the staff were really prompt in closing and cleaning the pub and getting set up for the evening. They arranged things exactly as we had requested and absolutely nothing was too much trouble. The food on the evening drew lots of compliments from our guests on the delicious dishes and presentation and there was more than enough food for everyone. The bar staff worked tirelessly all evening and our guests commented on how chatty and friendly they were.
At the end of the night, they packed away all our decorations ready to be collected the next day. We had a wonderful evening celebrating and this was in no small part due to the lovely G & D staff.
We would highly recommend the pub for any celebration as they definitely went the extra mile to make our day special. Huge thanks to Kerri and Jo for their organisation and help and to Jess and the other bar staff on the day and not forgetting to mention the great chefs. Thank you all for our amazing memories xx
I had Saturday lunch here with my husband and we were served by Cath and Klaudia. The food was amazing, melt in your mouth. I had the bbq brisket ciabatta and hubs had the wagyu beef burger. Good value for money and the service was fast, really nice bright and airy vibe, will be coming again!
Really good roasts!
Four of us met for Sunday roast and were really impressed with the lunches and in particular the value for money!
The cuts of meat were really thick, great quality veg and Yorkshire pudding and the sauces were fab too.
The sides were great too but the stuffing was maybe just a little dry and crumbly (we still ate them mind you, that's probably picking hairs!)
Definitely be back at some point soon.

Went back again!
Again, the food was superb (my katsu curry was delicious!) but they all looked fantastic.
Jo and Tony were really attentive and friendly while we were eating.
Will no doubt be back soon again! Thanks team.
