About This Pub

Ah, the Unicorn – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper local gem in Coventry, you know? I've got to say, what really stands out is how they nail the family-friendly angle; picture yourself in the beer garden with the kids tearing about in the play area, or inside catching the latest match with a cold pint in hand. The food's a winner too – think hearty dishes at prices that won't break the bank, especially with those weekday deals that let you feast for a tenner. And the staff? They're an absolute delight, always ready with a smile and a helping hand. But, let's keep it real, it's not all roses; the place is a bit off the beaten track, so you might need to plan your journey. Plus, I've heard a few tales of service slip-ups, like getting the wrong order or feeling a bit overlooked at the bar, which can take the shine off an otherwise lovely visit. The portions might leave you wanting more, and if you're aiming for an evening out with the family, that early soft play closure could cramp your style. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together or a bite after a long week, as long as you go in with realistic expectations – I'd pop by for the vibe and the value, but maybe keep an eye on the service.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is really tasty and great value for money, especially with deals like tucking into a meal for just a tenner on weekdays.
  • It's super family-friendly with an outdoor play area and indoor options, making it a brilliant spot for a relaxed day out with the kids.
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and friendly; I've heard they're always up for a chat and make you feel right at home.
  • They've got a cracking atmosphere with live sports on the telly, free Wi-Fi, and even a beer garden for those sunny days.
  • Plenty of facilities like disabled access, a car park, and EV charging make it convenient for everyone dropping by.
Cons
  • The location's a bit out in the sticks, so it might not be the easiest place to get to if you're not local.
  • Service can be hit or miss; some folks have had orders mixed up or felt a bit brushed off, which puts a dampener on things.
  • Portions can be on the small side, even if the food tastes good, so you might leave feeling a tad peckish.
  • The soft play area shuts early at 6 pm, which means it's not ideal for evening family meals when the little ones are still full of energy.

Location is bit out the way, but worth the journey with the playarea! Food is great for the price! Always a good environment inside! Staff are extremely friendly and lovely, especially Lisa and Suzi :)

To the bar staff that didn't believe me about starting a tab taking money, please see screenshot. Made to feel like an idiot when paying. Food was tasty but small portions. Soft play shuts at 6 so no point going with your kids for an evening meal. They even have a bar section for over 18s only, which you walk through from the carpark. Wouldn't go back.

Went in over Christmas and they got our order wrong. Also, they did not charge for one meal and therefore it did not come out. This was raised to the managers attention but they were happy to just refund our payment and did not offer a resolution to the mistakes they had made regardless of the fact that we had waited so long for the food. I would have understood if the place was full but it wasn't even half full. We took the refund and went to the Penny Farthing where we had a lovely meal. We eat out regularly and normally I would rate the the place highter but the customer service was a farce.

First time here and really enjoyed it. Came because my partner loved the name of the pub. Wasn't expecting much but was taken away by the quality of the food. Didn't taste like it was from farmfoods. Had a wide selection of drinks which can be ordered at the bar or using the app. Had a Strongbow Dark Fruit Slushie which was just the best, specially since it was warm outside. Staff are super friendly, had a bit of a laugh with them. Plenty of space for parking and nice scenery with the trees surrounding the pub. Not expensive also which is good. All in all, would definitely go again. Wasn't super busy also and this was on the bank holiday.
