About This Pub
Ah, Union Tavern – what a lovely little spot it is, tucked away in Salford. From what I've gathered, it's one of those classic English pubs that just hits the mark for a proper pint and a chat. The staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, like you're part of the furniture from day one, and the beers from Joseph Holt are top drawer, with some cracking deals that make it easy on the wallet. It's got that nostalgic charm with Manchester United memorabilia on the walls and a relaxed setup for darts, which is just perfect for unwinding after a long day. On the flip side, the hours are a bit limited during the week, so you might miss out if you're not around in the evenings, and it's not exactly in the city centre, which could be a minor hassle. All in all, if you're after an authentic pub experience with friendly faces and solid drinks, it's well worth seeking out – just plan ahead and you'll have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in, just like chatting with old mates over a pint.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of Joseph Holt's award-winning ales and lagers, along with great deals like Fizz Friday and those tempting shots offers – brilliant value for money.
-
It's a proper traditional English pub with a cosy atmosphere, complete with darts, memorabilia of Manchester United, and even dog-friendly vibes, perfect for a relaxed catch-up.
-
The prices are spot on for a good night out, being inexpensive without skimping on quality, and it's easily accessible in Salford with disabled access to boot.
Cons
-
The opening hours can be a bit restrictive on weekdays, starting as late as 3 PM, which might leave you out in the cold if you're fancying a lunchtime tipple.
-
It's tucked away on a Salford street corner, so it might not be the most convenient spot if you're coming from further afield in Greater Manchester – could take a bit of effort to get to.
-
While it's got a charming traditional feel, some might find it a tad quiet or lacking in more modern entertainment options beyond darts and a few specials.

Stunning! So good to know there are still pubs like this. Friendly welcome, great beer, great prices. Don't miss it if you're in Greater Manchester
Super cozy pub. Good beers and friendly people! Worth the detour
In our trip across the pond, this was our 1st foray into a proper English pub. Phil & everyone showed us amazing hospitality & we felt right at home. Great atmosphere, very good drink selection & the people were top notch. Can’t wait to go back & carry on with everyone again!
I visited the pub on my first day of being in Salford based on the reviews being so good. My experience was so good I went back two more times in the two days I was here! The staff and patrons were so very friendly and welcoming, the beer was excellent and the overall atmosphere was a 11 out of 10! I cannot wait to return and would not hesitate to recommend it.
Working in Manchester chefing and wanted to visit a local pub and wow, we are so glad that we found this local pub. From the very start, we were greeted by the owners and locals as if we had been coming here for many years. If you want a great experience from a local pub, make sure you make time to visit. 5☆
