About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about the Penny Farthing – it's one of those pubs in Coventry that just feels like a proper local gem. I popped in recently and was really taken by how warm and inviting the place is; it's got that relaxed vibe where you can unwind with mates over a pint or enjoy a meal without any fuss. The food's a highlight – think hearty classics like fish and chips or burgers that hit the spot, and they've got deals like 30% off mains, which is a nice touch if you're looking to save a bit. The staff are absolute stars, always on hand with a smile and quick to make sure everything's just right. It's brilliant for families too, with plenty of space for little ones to be themselves, and even dogs are welcome, which makes it feel inclusive. Plus, that pub garden is perfect for soaking up the sun with a cold drink. On the flip side, it can get a tad expensive if you're going with a group, as the bills mount up, and I've heard a few grumbles about things like table setups for larger parties not being spot on. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out – you'd probably have a great time, but just keep an eye on the costs to avoid any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed evening with friends or family.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.
  • They've got a fantastic variety of food on offer, from classic pub grub like fish and chips to juicy burgers and fresh salads – something to suit every taste.
  • It's super family-friendly, with a relaxed vibe where kids can be themselves, and even dogs are welcome, which is brilliant for pet owners.
  • The pub garden is a real gem for enjoying drinks and meals outdoors, especially on a sunny day in Coventry.
  • Prices are reasonable overall, and they've got great deals like 30% off mains, plus events and offers that add to the fun.
Cons
  • It can get a bit pricey for larger groups or families, as meals and drinks add up quickly, so it's worth budgeting ahead.
  • Sometimes there are minor niggles, like tables not being arranged properly for big bookings, which might make it feel a tad disjointed.
  • While the food is generally spot on, a few folks have mentioned it's not the cheapest option out there, especially for everyday visits.

A lovely surprise in the heart of Coventry! I had a great experience at The Penny Farthing! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming – perfect for a relaxing evening with friends or a quiet meal. The staff were very friendly and attentive, making us feel at home from the moment we walked in. The menu offers a nice variety, and the food was delicious and served quickly. I highly recommend the fish and chips – the portion was generous, the fish perfectly crispy, and the chips were just right. Great value for money! A place I’ll definitely come back to. Thank you for a lovely evening!

(updated review after second visit experience, two weeks later) I visited Penny Farthing again and Ian, the general manager was there to bring us to our table. This time I ordered the Ribs and Chicken set and my wife ordered Sunday Roast. The food was fantastic. The meat fell off the rib, the tangy-ness of the chicken wing was just nice and the Southern fried chicken fillet was flavourful. The Sunday roast…you can’t go wrong with it…very nice. One thing I would like to mention is one the staff upon noticing us trying to get a we-fie, offered to take a photo of the whole family. Really made our days. Thank you for the kind gesture. Enjoyed this time round. ============================= (First visit experience) Overall, it was a pleasant visit. The atmophere was good. My kids enjoy playing at the playground within the pub. The reason I'm giving 3 stars (though partially my mistake) are: (i) I made my order at the counter. I ordered Steak Americano and was given Sirloin Upgrade without me realising it. I only realised it when I went back to check my receipt wondering why I was charged £2.00 more. (ii) The food arrived as I was attending my kids at the playground, so my wife was not fully aware what was in the Steak Americano. When I started eating, I also didn't realise things were missing from my order till I finished my food. That's when I realised why my steak was so plain. My Steak Americano DID NOT have topping with crispy bacon, melted Mozzarella & Cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce. It's just a plain steak. Felt a bit overpay for not getting what I wanted. :(

I loved it, we came out as s family of five it wasn't cheap or affordable we had 4 adult meals, 1 child, 5 adult puddings, 1 child and drinks came to just under €100. But service was 2nd to none, clean and tidy, and food was good size and great. We all had a great time. The only thing that let it down was it was a warm day so we sat by a window, but outside that window was tables which allowed smokers and we had to shut the window but could still small the smoke. Also in the kids play area no smoking signs but adults was smoking and no one thier to ask them to stop. Lovely place but due to health condition and them not stopping smoking around restaurant it would not return. But if your smokers and adults support the place it's great food & cluster service. It's a shame as we all loved it. Thank you to all the staff you were amazing and the chef great food.

Booked for a family meal of 18 people. The seating was great as we had the whole corner to ourselves, only thing id change is the fact the tables werent put together so we all had to sit seperately. We had the table from 3-7 which was nice as we wasnt rushed, we were able to take our time and leave when we were ready. Food was amazing, couldnt fault it. Eveyone had something different and no one had any complaints. Staff were very friendly and service was super quick. Children made the most of the outside area. We will deffinately be returning.

Lovely place to eat with friends and family. A good varied menu with reasonable prices. All very delicious. Good decor and very clean. Very friendly and helpful staff.I visited as a charity group of eight people and we were shown to a quiet corner to have our meeting. It was nice to have no music blaring. My partner and I shared a starter. Then I had the Ultimate Veggie Burger with sweet potato fries, and it was delicious 😋. For a vegetarian this was good value and a good menu option to choose, no fault and all eaten. The restaurant floor, tables and toilets were very clean. And the staff very helpful.
