About This Pub

Ah, the Turf Tavern in Carlisle is one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a laid-back get-together – it's got that cosy, family-friendly feel with a prime location right by the River Eden, surrounded by lovely greenery. From what I've seen, the staff are real gems, always going the extra mile, like sorting out surprise parties or whipping up quick, delicious meals that won't empty your wallet, especially with those weekday deals. The food's a highlight too, with options like juicy burgers and perfectly cooked steaks that folks rave about. It's brilliant for catching live sports or just enjoying a cocktail in a welcoming atmosphere. On the downside, it can get a tad noisy and crowded when the big games are on or during busy evenings, so if you're after something more serene, you might want to pop in during off-peak hours. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out, with plenty of positives that make it worth a visit, but keeping those little niggles in mind keeps it real.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant and go out of their way to make your visit special, like decorating tables for birthdays and serving with a smile.
  • The food is spot on – tasty dishes like burgers and steak sizzlers, plus great value deals such as tucking into a meal for just a tenner on weekdays.
  • It's in a lovely spot near the River Eden, surrounded by greenery and parks, making it perfect for a relaxed outing or watching live sports.
  • Family-friendly vibe with top facilities like disabled access, WiFi, and a car park, so it's welcoming for everyone, including little ones.
Cons
  • It can get a bit lively during big events or matches, which might make it tricky for a quiet catch-up with friends.
  • As with many pubs, it does tend to get busy at peak times, so you might need to book ahead to avoid waiting around.

Daughters 30th. Staff went above and beyond. We brought table decorations and cake down not expecting tables for party of 12 to be decorated and set out appropriately. Many Thanks guys.

So after a brief stop I stumbled across this place. As always never know what I'd fancy!!... Freya was there with some pretty cool tattoos, loverly person and said I should try the steak sizzler. Come out piping hot and the steak was cooked perfect. Medium rare as asked.... Every passing by well worth a popping your head in. 😃

Came in for lunch. As it was Friday we took advantage of the buy one get one free burger deal. I went for the Quadzilla burger whilst the wife had the bacon cheeseburger. Food was really tasty and cooked well. We come here occasionally and staff are always friendly. Natasha served us and was very attentive. A lovely trip here and definitely value for money.

Met here for a meeting with friends to plan some future events. We chose this location as it's central to us all whether we walk or have to resort to the car. It was early on a Thursday evening, so we hadn't booked and were able to choose our own table. We were able to talk without being drowned out by background music or numerous people, which was ideal. I opted for a lovely mac n cheese toastie, sweet potato fries, and a gin or two. We ordered at the bar and waited a short while for our meals to arrive. We did have to temporarily move to a larger table to eat, as ours wasn't big enough for the plates. The staff were fabulous, the food was filling, and there was no pressure to be finished quickly and leave. Easy to get to on foot and by car, a good walk from the bus and rail stations. There's a car park onsite. I parked nearby and walked through as I wanted to avoid the evening rush hour in the city. We are likely to use this venue again for its convenient location.
