About This Pub
Ah, the Howard Arms – it's one of those pubs that just wraps you up in its charm from the get-go. From what I've gathered from folks who've been, the cask ales are spot on, with four hand pumps offering Theakston's bitter and some cracking guest options that go down a treat. The home-cooked food is proper no-nonsense grub, like that tasty Cumberland sausage, served up Wednesday to Sunday, though it's worth noting there have been times when it's not available due to staff hiccups, which is a shame but seems rare. I love the homely feel with its quirky decorations and comfy seats, and it's dead welcoming – even for dogs, which is a nice touch. Fridays bring a free jukebox for some laid-back tunes, and upstairs there's a sports room with pool and darts to keep things lively. The beer garden's a bonus for sunnier days, making it a great spot to catch up with friends. All in all, it's not trying to be anything flash, but if you're after a genuine, affordable pub experience in Carlisle, it's well worth a visit – just keep an eye on those food days to avoid any letdowns.

Called in a couple of months back with an ex work colleague to find there was no food available due to staff illness. Good ale though.
Went in again yesterday to find both food and drink were top notch. 2 very well kept cask ales, and good quality pub grub. Nowt fancy, but a good Cumberland sausage bap, decent fries and spankingly fresh salad. All served with a smile by friendly knowledgeable bar staff.
This pub is less than 10 minutes walk from the railway station, so if you’re at a loose end for an hour do yourself a favour and forget the national chain pubs of dubious quality nearby and support a local independent boozer. You’ll feel better for it. Recommended.
So glad this pub re opened after closing previously in 2023, as it has kept its elements as an old pub magnificently! This is done with the old decorations like clocks and ornaments on the shelves, as well as shiny gold lining. The counter is very stylish with this, seating is so comfortable and I had a refreshing pint of Strongbow Dark Fruits!
A really homely vibe to this quirky pub (which is also dog friendly 👍). We were made to feel very welcome by Ethan and team. A great choice of food - totally recommend the macaroni, cheese with chorizo. Nice beer garden too. The milk churn stool is fabulous!❤️.
Very impressed with this quirky little pub.
Immaculately clean and a nice range of drinks. We didn't eat there, but plenty of people were eating and the food looked lovely.

Found this one by Google search. The outside is of a typical pub facade that was the fashion many years ago. Dont be put off by it appearance from the outside because it serves some brilliant meals in what is a tardis once inside. Has a one way system around the inside that works really well for these covid times we live in. Will say the chips were the best that I have tasted for as long as I came remember. Crisp on the outside and lovely soft fluffy inside. Of the meals we had nothing when to waste and there was plenty of it.
