About This Pub

Ah, the Apple Tree in Carlisle – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the food is a real winner; think hearty, delicious meals that won't set you back too much, perfect for a casual meal with friends. The staff stand out too – they're warm and chatty, always ready with a smile or to check if you're alright, which makes the place feel inviting right from the off. And if you're popping in with your dog, they'll make a right fuss over them, which is lovely if you're out for a walk in the area. It's also brilliant for sports fans, with live matches on the screens and a buzzing atmosphere that gets everyone involved. On the flip side, it does get quite lively at times, so if you're after a peaceful pint, you might have to time it right or squeeze in. Being part of a chain, it has that familiar pub feel, which is comforting but perhaps not as unique as some independent spots. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out – affordable, friendly, and in a handy spot – but keep in mind it might not wow you with anything groundbreaking. If you're in Carlisle, it's definitely worth a visit for the good vibes and value.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely spot on – tasty, well-priced meals that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive; they really go the extra mile to make sure everyone feels welcome, like chatting with old mates.
  • It's super dog-friendly, with staff fussing over your pets and even snapping their photos – perfect if you're out with your four-legged companion.
  • A great spot for catching live sports on the telly, with comfy seating and a lively atmosphere during big games.
  • Loads of exciting deals on drinks and food almost every day, making it an affordable choice for a night out in the heart of Carlisle.
Cons
  • It can get a bit bustling during peak hours, which might make it tricky to find a quiet corner for a chat.
  • As a chain pub, it sometimes feels a tad generic rather than uniquely local, so if you're after something more quirky, it might not hit the mark.
  • The menu sticks to classic pub fare, so if you're in the mood for something adventurous or fancy, you might find it a bit straightforward.

We've stayed in Carlisle for 10 nights. We came here the first night and liked it that much we came every night. The food is excellent and both food and drinks are a good price. The staff are all lovely, especially Connor, who goes out of his way to make sure you're ok. If we ever come back to Carlisle we will definitely be back.

Extremely dog friendly. Every member of staff came to greet our springers. A bowl of water was provided as soon as we sat down and they had their photo taken for the wall. We were so impressed that we went back next day for a meal. Staff remembered the dogs names and made a fuss. Nice little doggie menu. Quick service and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely meal at affordable prices for all of us

We had a family birthday meal here sat 9th March, 18 of us!! Food absolutely delicious, service was outstanding (and they were busy!) we were looked after from start to finish!! It’s our second year doing this at the Apple tree and hopefully many more years ahead of us. Many thanks to all the staff for a very memorable evening 5* all the way!!
