About This Pub
Ah, The Old Bank – it's one of those places that just warms your heart from the moment you step in. I've heard from folks who've visited that the food is a standout, with pub favourites getting a creative spin that keeps things interesting, and the puddings are apparently to die for. The cocktails are another highlight, making it a brilliant spot for a relaxed evening catch-up. Service-wise, it's all about that friendly, attentive vibe; the team really go the extra mile to make sure you're looked after without hovering. On the flip side, it's a shame about the dog policy changing on weekends – if you're planning a trip with your pooch, you'll want to check that first. And honestly, the opening times can be a bit of a muddle, so popping onto their website or giving them a ring beforehand is a smart move to avoid any letdowns. All in all, it's a solid choice for a meal out in Carlisle, blending great grub with a welcoming atmosphere, but like any spot, it's got its little quirks that keep it real.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot-on, with pub classics given a fresh twist – think incredible puddings and a menu that changes regularly to keep things exciting.
-
Service is top-notch; the staff are friendly, attentive, and make you feel right at home without being over the top.
-
Great value for money, especially their afternoon tea which strikes a perfect balance of sweet and savoury treats.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of cocktails that really hit the spot, perfect for unwinding after a long day.
-
It's dog-friendly during the week, which is a lovely touch if you're out with your furry friend.
Cons
-
It seems like they might not be dog-friendly on weekends anymore, which could disappoint if that's what you're after.
-
The operating hours look a bit confusing from what I've seen, so it's worth double-checking before you head out to avoid any surprises.
-
With the status showing as closed, I wonder if there might be some downtime – always best to confirm it's open when planning a visit.

5** service. Lovely food lovely staff the girls are a credit to the place and off course the food was cooked to perfection. Thank you so much for making our evening very enjoyable will definitely be back.
** No longer dog friendly at weekends**.
Really enjoyed my visit here with Harris, my 3-year old Cocker Spaniel. Couldn’t quite believe it was dog-friendly when I popped my head in, but boy was it! Great, friendly and engaging staff. Service was top-notch and food was good too. I had a flatbread with chicken and mango chutney and it was delicious! I could easily have eaten just this, but had ordered a portion of fries too. Luckily, Harris helped me pit with a few fries!
Eclectic decor which makes you smile!
Would definitely return!!
Delicious afternoon tea and great value. Friendly service too and easy to book. I like the fact the menu changes regularly and the afternoon tea is a good mix of sweet and savoury unlike some others. Good choice of cocktails and cocktails as well. The staff were really willing to help when we were missing one item.
Excellent, would recommend.
Service was brilliant.
Food was quality.
Can't praise them high enough and i am a fussy so and so.
3 ladles on Service were very attentive and respectful at the same time. Making sure we were happy and seeing if we needed/wanted anything more without being intrusive. Perfect.
Food was really excellent.
Chef(s), thank you. I enjoyed that so much more than I can put in words. Really nice and very filling. So much so we couldn't order dessert...too full 😀.
Atmosphere in restaurant was nice and relaxed.
Will definitely return.
We went to The Old Bank for a Sunday Roast, and it was epic! The portions were huge, the meat cooked to perfection and came with all the trimmings. The staff and service were just incredible - all were super friendly, attentive, and really lovely. They allow dogs too, and made a proper fuss of our 2 Frenchies, so we all felt very well looked after. We also had the madras kiev and lasagne bites starters, which were amazing, and also very generous portions. Highly recommend this great restaurant to anyone in the area. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Carlisle!
