About This Pub
Ah, Town Crier, it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles the moment you step inside. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that classic traditional feel, with staff who go out of their way to make you feel welcome – I mean, who doesn't love a smile and a chat while you're waiting for your drink? The food sounds brilliant too; folks are raving about the fish and chips and even the veggie options like the five-bean chilli, which is a nice touch if you're not all about the meat. It's got a bit of history to it as well, which adds a charming layer, especially for us locals who remember the good old days. On the flip side, it does get busy, so you might end up jostling for a table on weekends, and the website's a bit unreliable if you're planning ahead. All in all, it's a solid spot for a relaxed evening with friends, and with a 4.3 rating from heaps of reviews, it's clear most people leave with a smile – I'd say it's worth a visit for a pint and a bite, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
They've got a cracking selection of cask ales, perfect for anyone who appreciates a good pint.
-
The food is spot on, with homemade options like the fish and chips that folks rave about, and plenty of choices for vegetarians too.
-
It's got that lovely traditional pub vibe, with a bit of history that makes it feel special, especially if you're from around Coventry.
-
The service is quick and cheerful, even when it's busy, which is great for a casual catch-up with mates.
Cons
-
The operating hours seem a tad confusing from what I've seen, which might leave you scratching your head about when it's best to pop in.
-
With over a thousand reviews, it's popular, so it can get quite packed at peak times, making it tricky to find a seat.
-
Their website didn't load for me, which is a shame if you're trying to check the menu or book ahead online.

What a lovely, traditional pub. The service is great with really friendly staff and a good range of cask ales. Homemade food from their own menu too. Will return
I can honestly say that the food here is absolutely amazing!!! Came in the other day with some friends for some food and they blew us away. I had the fish and chips as I’ve heard it was good and it didn’t disappoint. The staff are amazing there! I was served by Ryan who gave me the recommendation of the fish and helped me find a drink I would like. Will defo be coming again
Thursday, 17.04.25 Had the Fish & Chips for lunch. Absolutely delicious.
One of Coventrys historic pubs, I’m old enough to remember it being built in 1990. Set of edge the city centre this place was my go to in the early 90’s for “pre drinks” before heading to the nightclubs of the time. It was my place…. It’s still my place now 31 years later, a place that’s has evolved with the times yet held its image and style holds credit to the owners over the time. You can come here on a Friday and Saturday night and experience live bands etc ac Sunday for a classic roast dinner to midweek where local clubs will meet up. This pub has withstood the decline in the great British pub and withstood it well. The food here is amazing amd Tac the chef deserves full credit as do all the bar staff in there. All in all there’s a few British heritages that we must protect David Attenborough is one, and I truly believe the Town Crier of Coventry is another.
Meaning to come here for years and last week stepped inside, with 2 others. Bit quiet, as it was shortly after opening time. By the time we left, most tables were occupied. Ordered drinks and food. Service with a smile. Food was delicious and enough choice for vegetarians as well. 5 bean chilli is good, steak and Guinness pie is a must and can't go wrong with a burger. Will definitely pop in again.
